Box Office For January 2nd Weekend - Little Fockers, True Grit & TRON: Legacy

After another wonderful holiday season it is once again time to wrap up the box office results for the final weekend of 2010 and move into 2011. Because of the nature of the holiday weekend there weren’t any box office smashes released last weekend so it would be up to the mid December releases to battle it out for the box office dollar. Little Fockers grabbed hold of the first place box office position for the second weekend in a row adding $26 million to their two week total of $103.1 million. Little Fockers reviews are mixed as the third installment of the storyline is not living up to the original but is providing a great option for moviegoers looking for a star studded comedy.

The latest of the Coen Brothers movies, True Grit, gave Little Fockers some much needed competition making $24.5 million and owning the second place box office spot. True Grit, which stars Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges, was able to bring their total gross earnings to $86.8 million surpassing their previous best release of No Country For Old Men which topped out at $74.3 million. The reviews of this film have been good so look for continued success over the following weekends as there are not a lot of big movies on the horizon.

TRON: Legacy isn’t finished quite yet as the fantasy sequel added $18.3 million bringing their three week total to $130.9 million. The film stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde and is getting great reviews and at the pace it is at is should surpass the $131.6 million mark set by the July 1st 2010 film The Last Airbender. Look for this film to continue its momentum over the following weeks with new and repeat viewers.

On a not so successful note, How Do You Know, starring Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson continues its lackluster performance at the box office. The film grabbed the 12th spot at the box office this weekend bringing in a pathetic $4.6 million and a three week total of $25.1 million. With a budget of over $100 million this film will more than like find itself losing money.
