Box Office Results for the Weekend of November 7th
The November 7th weekend was a great one for the box office as new great films were added to the entertaining films already playing in theaters. This weekend the box office was dominated by the unstoppable duo of Megamind (Will Ferrell) and Metroman (Brad Pitt). The animated film Megamind, from Paramount Studios brought in just over $47 million making it the third #1 opening for Paramount in the last four weekends. Megamind also beat out the successful 2010 animated film How To Train Your Dragon by about $4 million on it’s opening weekend.
The second place spot at the box office belonged to the premiere of Due Date. This hilarious comedy stars Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis as the two travel across the country to get Peter Highman (Downey Jr.) to witness the birth of his first child. Due Date gathered $33.5 million in box office earnings in it’s opening weekend. This film is directed by Todd Phillips and was his second most successful film opening behind The Hangover which earned $45 million. Todd Phillips took this project as he awaits the filming of The Hangover 2 which will be released in 2011.
The Tyler Perry film For Colored Girls grabbed the third box office position making just over $20 million. This film has an incredibly talented cast with names like: Thandie Newton, Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine, and Phylicia Rashad.
