This is a dedication to Espasso who is celebrating ten years of bringing the artistry of Brazilian artisans to our notice. It tells how they are helping to stop the devastation of the Brazian rainforests and how they find and use the wonderful woods from that colourful country.

Decorator Showrooms in NYC and LA
The short but interesting history of this marvellous decorator showroom showcasing treasures from Brazil starts with founder Carlos Junqueira, a native Brazilian in 2002. He realized that such a place dedicated to Brazil’s rich heritage from 1940 and on, vintage and new designs, contemporary furniture, art pieces and accessories was missing both in New York City and Los Angeles, two important hubs for this type of market.
Gathering around him many well-know Brazilian designers both modern and contemporary, designers like Sergio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro, Branco & Preto, Lina Bo Bardi, Antonio da Motta, Arthus Casas, Etel Carmona, Carlos Motta and Claudia Moreira Salles to name a few.
Now in their 10th year, Espasso is celebrating their achievements.
Halting the Devastation of the Brazilian rainforests
As you wander through the showrooms your eyes will be opened to a veritable wonderland of great craftsmanship.
Working at halting the devastation to the great Brazilian rainforests, these passionate artisans use broken branches, roots of fallen tree trunks, reclaimed wood from demolition sites and decimated but once important buildings to create their impeccable furniture and accessories, all of which can be identified by numbers.
Even wood from a 350 year bridge built in Sao Paulo by the British now has been transformed into a carved bench of superb design.
Richness of each Piece..so lovingly made
Unique furniture is built from Jacaranda that is a form of rosewood. Peroba wood, much loved by Carlos Motta is another type of rosewood from which he creates fascinating furniture whilst Ricardo Fasanello works with metal and fibreglass to design one of a kind art forms.
There is so much richness in each piece not just within the design itself but from the wood itself whose essence infiltrates and can be felt as one lovingly caresses it.
To their ever-expanding contemporary and vintage collections, ESPASSO NY will be adding an extensive library of selected books for purchase in the upcoming months.
