Review of the mysteriously named "P001/(c)LOEBEAT/2009" CD being currently being sold at Loebeat live performances. Modern electric pop with pin sharp vocals and meaty beats.
Is it an album?
I'm not sure if its an EP, or some kind of demo album, or just a mix of the more polished tracks they had knocking around. But it's being sold at concerts so I'm guessing it qualifies as their first "release" in some manner. Semantics aside - you get a lot more than a CD when you pick it up.
The package
The black card bags are all individually numbered, mine being a somewhat exclusive sounding "22".
Inside there is a pack of photos, an art card, the CD itself and a foil bag containing a Loebeat T-Shirt. Now that's value, buy the CD and get the T-Shirt for free! The photos are of particular interest as Loebeat member Ramdaq is also a sought after fashion photographer, and they don't disappoint.
The photos are contained in a metallic slip case. Within that is a simple white envelope with the Loebeat brand printed on in red. The envelope opens to reveal a red interior and 10 luscious glossy prints. The images featuring band members Lula and Dicey in various metallic/futuristic garbs. Excellent stuff.
The tunes
The CD contains the following tracks:
- Break your heart
- Come and get it
- Fire
- Music boy
- I want more
- Like a puzzle
- Dirty disco
- Unruly
The style is claimed to be unashamedly pop... but that'd be underplaying the layers of influence on display. But my intention was to detail the contents of the package, not dissect the music.. you can do that yourself thanks to the handy embedded MP3 player on the band's website.
Overall I think this is a great package and a great direction for aspiring bands to move in. They've got some great tunes to share, but they've also taken the opportunity to reward fans with some real value and by sharing some of their other talents such as the photography. A welcome change.
