Microsoft is a free anti-virus by giant itself. It is at its early stages but gives you minimum protection.
Microsoft essential review
Version 1 was focused only on anti-virus and anti-spyware protection, which was the basic protection needs. But with time it as extended to better protection.
Version 2 comes with network protection only for windows 7 and windows vista user. Windows xp couldn't get this feature, you can use avast which gives you web protection.
Version 4, Microsoft skips version 3 and had released version 4 beta. It’s only available in limited.
I prefer to use stable than beta, version 2 has been best anti-virus with simple look and less disturbing. What I mean, you need to just install it and forget about it. You are alerted only when a treat is found. You are not informed about updates and any other stuff until its threat.
Installation is very simple, you need genuine windows to install and after validation just follow steps.at the time of installation it asks whether to turn on firewall and next it asks to restart after installation.
but thing is after you had install it, it would start to download protection engines which includes anti-virus and anti-spyware, which seems that the complete anti-virus protect would be more than 50MB to that of 7MB which is available to download in their official site.
As per detection, it has been good though not robust and it has been awarded vb 100 too. Best part is that it as low false detection rate, whatever may be reason Microsoft prefer to have less negative detection unlike other anti-virus.
