Moliere-The Learned Ladies
Showing in December in Romanian theatres, a comedy in two parts
Moliere’s theatre troup had played „The Learned Ladies” for the first time in the parisian Palais-Royal on the 11th of March 1672, when the part of Chrysale was acted by the author himself.
The play, since then considered one of Moliere’s masterpieces, caused a big stir on the premier as in the satirical-mocking play many of the audience recognised themselves.
In the past centuries the play grew ever more successful, and has not lost its actuality to the present day.
It is essential in „The Learned Ladies”, as in many Moliere comedies, that the goal of the play stands not only in making the audience laugh, but to become the mirror and satire of the society.
Moliere mocks at different groups and types of society, and in the mirror facing the audience, there can be seen our frailties and mistakes, too.
