I saw the Movie "Patiala House" recently on TV, and thought of writing a personal opinion of the movie.
A personal review of Hindi Movie: "Patiala House"
The Hindi language movies, or the Bollywood movies as they are popularly called are distinct in the emphasis they have on songs and dances within the story. However, increasingly, we are also seeing that the movie script is also getting more and more importance. The earlier distinction between art and commercial cinema in Bollywood has blurred, and even movies with lots of songs and dance are having better scripts. I saw one such movie some time back on Television. "Patiala House" was released in Feb 2011.
The story is about a joint Punjabi family based in England. One of the youngster in the family,Pargat Singh Kahlon, played by actor Akshay Kumar wants to play as an express fast bowler for England. However, the head of this joint family, played by Rishi Kapoor is a dominating type and is against Pargat playing for England due to some reasons. Cricket is the important ingredient in this movie. There are guest appearances by Naseer Hussain, Andrew Symonds and cricket commentators Nikhil Chopra and Alan Wilkinson. I cannot figure out if Andrew Symonds' footage was shown or did he actually have a guest role in the movie. The movie has a happy ending (as is the case with most Bollywood masala movies) and Pargat Singh Kahlon(Akshay Kumar) excels as a fast bowler for England, clearing all doubts and opposition.
