Resident Evil 6 Story, Development, Gameplay and Release Date
Resident Evil 6 is a game that needs little introduction due to the immense popularity it has amassed. Referred to as Biohazard 6 in Japan, it is essentially a horror drama that has been developed and distributed by Capcom. It is expected to release on November 20, 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A later date is to be announced for Microsoft Windows.
The story is set in 2013 and U.S President Adam Benford has decided to disclose the truth behind the Raccoon City Destruction Incident in 1998. The prime impetus behind choosing to do so is to curtain the revival in bioterrorist activity. Leon S. Kennedy, President’s close friend and Raccoon City survivor is standing by his side through this but as luck would have it; the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack and Leon is confronted with a situation he could’ve never imagined. The President has disfigured beyond recognition and now Leon has to make a decision that will change everything. Simultaneously, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield reaches the fictitious city of Lanshiang akin to Hong Kong, which is under a threat of a bioterrorist attack. With all countries exposed to these threats and attacks, the entire world’s population is unified by a common fear and anxiety that there is nothing that can be done.
Soon after Resident Evil 5 came out, the concept development of the game began and a full on trailer was released on January 19, 2012.
The person chairing the game development was Hiroyuki Kobayashi and as stated by Capcom is aspiring to deliver the most inspiring and remarkable Resident Evil title in terms of scope and production values. Capcom also pointed out that this game is a significant leap in the progress of the series. In the trailer featuring introductions of the team behind the production and development, the game has a development staff of more than 600 people making it Capcom’s biggest production up till now.
From what was shown in the trailer, it is obvious that the gameplay in the game will be very much like that to Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, with an over the shoulder style camera. However the gameplay will have Move and Shot instead of TANK Controls, and Chris gameplay hint about new cover machines. They player will be able to take on different characters though whether they will switch throughout the story or have separate stories has not been revealed yet.
The capacity to dual-wield certain weapons is being executed by Capcom as is clear by Leon holding two handguns in the January announcement trailer. The trailer also gives away a sneak preview of being able to use several CQC moves and Melee Weapons (like Axe, also seen in Leon’s footage). The famed dodge system from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Resident Evil: Revelations will be seen in this new series allowing the player to avoid enemies’ attacks.
