With the decline of the film industry in the 1970 in an attempt to ring back some of its missing audience the film industry began to turn out some tawdry sex films, however one series stood out from the others, read on to find out which ones and why....

Confession of a writer.

The 5th. November 1935 on Guy Fawkes night saw the birth of the English screenwriter and novelist Christopher Wood.
Wood was the first novelist to rewrite in the form of a novel some of the Bond films, among his works were….

  • "Confession of a writer"
  • .“James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me”
  • “James Bond and Moonraker”

Excellent writing

Kingsley Amis wrote in The New Statesman that, despite several reservations

“Mr Wood has bravely tackled his formidable task, that of turning a typical late Bond film, which must be basically facetious, into a novel after Ian Fleming, which must be basically serious. … the descriptions are adequate and the action writing excellent”

However, Christopher Wood was best known under the pseudonym Timothy Lea for the “Confessions” series of novels and films, the films span the 1970s and were recognized as some of the most popular of the UKs sex comedies, to date his Confessions novels include….

  1. Confessions of a Window Cleaner (1971)
  2. Confessions from a Holiday Camp (1972)
  3. Confessions of a Driving Instructor (1972)
  4. Confessions from a Hotel (1973)
  5. Confessions from the Clink (1973)
  6. Confessions of a Film Extra (1973)
  7. Confessions of a Travelling Salesman (1973)
  8. Confessions from a Health Farm (1974)
  9. Confessions from the Pop Scene (1974)
  10. Confessions from the Shop Floor (1974)
  11. Confessions of a Private Soldier (1974)
  12. Confessions of a Long Distance Lorry Driver (1975)
  13. Confessions of a Plumber’s Mate (1975)

  14. Confessions of a Pop Performer (1975)
  15. Confessions of a Private Dick (1975)
  16. Confessions from a Luxury Liner (1976)
  17. Confessions from a Nudist Colony (1976)
  18. Confessions of a Milkman (1976)
  19. Confessions of an Ice Cream Man (1977)
  20. Confessions from a Haunted House (1979)

Of which 4 have been made into films

  • Confessions of a Window Cleaner (1974)
  • Confessions of a Pop Performer (1975)
  • Confessions of a Driving Instructor (1976)
  • Confessions from a Holiday Camp (1977)

The seventies was the year of UK sex comedies

These “confession” films spawned three “Adventures of” films these films were in the same mode of the “Confessions” films, The “Adventure films attempted to step into the shoes of the more popular Confessions films but stopped after the third, the first in the trilogy was “Adventures of a Taxi Driver” (1976) This was followed by “Adventures of a Private Eye” (1977) and in the following year the final of the trilogy “Adventures of a Plumber’s Mate” (1978)

The seventies saw many more sex comedies but none matched the success and popularity of the Confessions films
