The anthology, the Tales of Hamza is a collection of stories chronicling the adventures of Hamza. Hamza was an uncle of the Prophet Muhammad. Islam was founded by the Prophet Muhammad and the Tales of Hamza are well-liked among the members of the Islamic faith worldwide.
The Tales of Hamza is also known as Hamzanama.
Hamza was a colorful character and had many amazing adventures.
Written work has always been highly regarded in Islam, and great calligraphers received a special honour in Islamic countries.
The team of writers and artists who worked to create the illustrated version of the Tales of Hamza comprised persons who were very highly trained in their profession.
Certain types of images could not and still cannot, be used in the Koran, so artists often looked forward to the opportunity to illustrate books such as the Tales of Hamza.
The scenes in the illustrated version of the Tales of Hamza were created by using the highest quality brushes and the finest pigments.
The Tales of Hamza contains 360 stories and illustrating them took about 15 years. Each illustration in the book is very detailed. Watercolors were used to create the illustrations.
It may have been in the artists’ best interest to not rush the work, since they were paid a monthly salary for their work.
