Anyone can write a novel but not anyone can write a novel in verse. Ellen Hopkins can and she excels at it. Her verse novels shed light on important issues teens and even adults face in today's society. All the books make an impact and they deserve the highest praise.
Writing Novels in Verse
Anyone can write a novel but not anyone can write a novel in verse and have the verses be in the form of shape poetry, where the verse resembles a certain shape, be it a cross, or a snowflake, or something else.
Well, Ellen Hopkins can and she excels at it. She doesn't just write novels, she writes novels in verse. And all make an impact, shedding light on important issues teens and even adults face in today's society, including drug abuse and addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia, cutting, rape, teen prostitution, and pregnancy.
All of her novels without exception have become New York Times Bestsellers. And I am not surprised as these novels are very powerful and effective, and talk about things that cannot be ignored.
The Verse Novels of Ellen Hopkins
Ellen Hopkins started out writing novels for teens, bringing eight amazing books to life - Impulse, Burned, Identical, Tricks, Perfect, and the books in the Crank Trilogy which include the novels Crank, Glass, and Fallout. But then she decided to branch out and write novels for adults. She already has one novel published called Triangles and it too is a novel in verse.
It makes no difference whether you are a teen or an adult, you will love all her novels. They will surely touch you and affect you in some way. And once you start reading one novel you will want to read them all. They are that good, that addictive. At least they are for me. I own all of the novels she has written to-date and loved them all. I am even inspired to write my own novel in verse and hope that I can master it as brilliantly as Ellen Hopkins does.
