Football indeed unites people of different colours and speaks many languages. It gives people the reason to take notice of the different nations taking part and in the process, respect and appreciate the diversity of cultures, colours, characters and looks of the players and supporters alike.
Sports - The World Cup 2010 in South Africa: It's Not All About Football....
The World Cup 2010 in South Africa has been great - it's not all about football but about people all over the world from different nations coming over to the melting port of South Africa to display their colourful cultures and alliances with their motherland; while displaying great pride in their respective representing nations, their coming together in South Africa indeed creates that wonderful colours of different people from all over the world – transforming the brushes of interaction strokes into one beautiful canvas of harmony.
That should be the picture of peace the world needs now!
Football indeed unites people of different colours and speaks many languages. It gives people the reason to take notice of the different nations taking part and in the process, respect and appreciate the diversity of cultures, colours, characters and looks of the players and supporters alike.
Fans all over the world congregate in South Africa; they came in full force and in various shades of colours and characters....
The Ghanaians came in bright colours yesterday; their players playing with ooze of pride representing their beloved continent. The Ghanaian fan even brought their prop of melting pot carried on the head in the match against Serbia!
Oh dear, how creative and colourful are these characters.
So were the South Africans, on the opening day tirelessly blowing the vuvuzelas and creating a buzzing bee-like swarm and a multi colours of welcoming pride in hosting the 2010 World Cup. "The World Cup is in South Africa," echoed Sepp Blater in his speech at the opening ceremony.
The Nigerians fan came prepared the next day for a party to celebrate an anticipated win for the Super Eagles, alas being denied by the La albiceleste – the white and light blue representing the Argentine’s pride.
The Algerians too came in their traditional soothing colours of green and white in their match against Slovenia; the rest of the continent would be represented by Cameroon and Ivory Coast later on in the other group matches.
And they too, will be supported with amazing display of colourful party of characters and stunning beauty of the African cultures.
The European, the Latin American of Central and South America, together with the Asian fans, then would provide yet another spectrum of combination of stunning beauty: and I am indeed, made feeling in awe of the human spirit and their diversity of cultures, characters and colours.
It's no irony then, the former president of South Africa, the respected Nelson Mandela was keen to bring the World Cup to the once apartheid nation; it changes the perspective of the world that the World Cup is not all about football but indeed about the people, their pride and love for their motherland, and the realisation about the great stunning value of football as a uniting sport for all people.
This World Cup is also not about South Africa alone: the World Cup 2010 not only belongs to South Africa and the African continent but indeed is celebrated with and by the rest of the world with great joy.
Salute then, to the old Grand Mandela for bringing this change in perspective through the World Cup in South Africa with the dazzling display of amazing colours, characters, and the welcoming, rich cultures of the African continent, blending so ever well with the rest of the world!
If there is a picture of tolerance and harmony, this then, should be the perfect picture of peace - the world needs now!
