This is to share my experiences with writing websites I love, each with varying intensity.
The Sites I Loved
How quickly time flies.
I registered with Triond sometime in July 2011 (the exact date eludes me now), days after I got swallowed up by then emerging new writing site Wikinut to whose link my friend at Yahoo Answers, Rathnashikamani, also a writer here, referred me.
Since then, I’ve published some pieces here I wasn’t proud of, really, for they were really refurbished articles from Wikinut. They were the sort of articles, duplicated as they might be (with some tweaks/rewordings), to test the waters, so to speak, in comparison with Wikinut.
I had been drawn more to the latter site because of its cool and elaborate formatting. You ended up being flashy after uploading clear images and embedding You Tube Videos. “Hey, guys, you’d love it here,” if only because of those cool features, as I invited other writer friends over as referrals. Most accepted.
And disappeared with each sunset into the 11 months I’d been with the site with unvoiced message: They would get nothing for the effort they exerted writing there, and that made me equally but embarrassingly speechless myself!
One thing going for Wikinut, which is a plus for any writing sites, is the friendly and supportive community. For that I salute it from the bottom of my heart. Their badges, the Star Page for an article, for instance, among other things, is indeed salutary and motivating…but, at the end of the day, writers need cash, with which the “star page” they seem to equate as a way to appease.
There are, of course, the pros and cons with all other writing sites thrown their way. The primordial consideration, at the end of the day, is remuneration, you agree? Who gets the fair share depends on who fall by the wayside, meaning they don’t get to find the right site(s) at the right time, much more stay loyal. I guess.
Aside from Triond, I’ve also become part of ExpertsColumn, in all honesty. Triond and the latter are definitely new environments where the creative juices in me will be induced to flow.
ExpertsColumn is a promising site to watch out for. Nonetheless, I wouldn't advice anyone here to leave my mother site, Wikinut.
I will write prose and poetry, such as they are, but I hope that the void in these 2 other new accounts will be filled, and no longer shall I see flashing on my computer screen: Holy Content on Triond and a worthy post absent on the other in the spirit of wider, fuller expression.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Write with me on Wikinut and enjoy earning in English pounds, aside from relishing the supportive writer community.

Good article, Buzz. Another site that you may want to consider writing for is TextBrokers. They, like their name states are content brokers. They don't publish anything themselves but they buy materials from freelancers to supply their clients. Articles are written to the clients title and to the client's specifications. The pay isn't bad either, ranging from $3 or $4.00 to as much as $20 for a 400 to 450 word article, depending on the level of proficiency you reach with TextBroker. Your status as a writer for TextBroker is adjusted based on each article that you write, so theoretically you pay per article could increase on a daily basis until you reach the highest payout level.TextBrokers doesn't pay a per view payout but just a one time upfront payment and the copyright belongs to the client who requested the article so you cannot resell the article to anyone else.Check TextBrokers out, they may be for you or they may not be.

Thanks for helping us with the writing experience! I need all the help I can get and appreciate all my fans!! I used to think that it took certain things to make a Star page but I guess I was wrong. My poems for children was not given a star yet the key words were fantastic. This past month I have started googling all my titles to get maximum key word usage but still no star! Perhaps Wikinut does not know about key words or maybe I offended them with my poem "Articulation scrutiny!" LOL Oh, by the way what does a star really mean anyway?? I must stop obsessing like a school girl about getting Stars and move on to new writing sites!!

Judy, refer to Peter's article here about attaining the star page: http://guides.wikinut.com/Peter-Giblett-s-Guide-to-Attaining-a-Star-Page/2ngwk_lb/

I would have to say that Triond has been declining for some time now, while Wikinut is gaining more readership. But this is merely a personal observation.

Triond? So I noticed, Peter. Wikinut? I think it's declining last I checked. But ExpertsColumn is surging ahead of the pack. Thanks, Peter.

Thanks all!.
Well I've served Wikinut since June 3, 2011, close to a year now.
I'm not severing my link to Wikinut. I just need a new environment. In the last 11 months, I've been severely active here giving out my best, support and encouraging every one that came way. Now I hope every one will forgive me if I stop commenting on their articles.
I just needed a new environment, as I've said, and thank Wiki for the platform through which I got recognized in a humble way. Hey, pal, Kaylar, this is not "Goodbye message board" just a notice that I will come back when things have changed.

Even though the wikinut does not pay you well, the community here is so good and supportive. Also the readership is much higher. So its feels good to be read and even though you are not earning but support from the community encourages you to write more which is indeed a good thing. The site's interface is also great compared to triond and expertscolumn.

Very interesting comments. Working full time does not leave me much time to look for fresh pastures. This is my third site; I will continue and hope things work out to benefit all. I understand online writing is not at all a bed of roses! Thanks Buzz, I wish you the very best and will be happy to see you whenever you have time. Namaste - siva

its been a while Buzz... I was on a one month Hiatus due to my exams, the last paper been tomorrow. This is a nice article, I read it yesterday but never had the time to comment, but one thing I did was: Joining Triond. I think it will be fun because I already have a good first professional writing impression from them... Secondly, I searched for lots of wikinut writers and I am glad I found them there (still searching for u)...
Nice awareness friend...

My most lucrative site is now (and has always been) Yahoo as a Featured Contributer. I primarily contribute in politics and arts & entertainment. However, I began with Associated Content, a 400,000 member blog, in 2007, and it was bought by Yahoo, so I became a writer for Yahoo (a 600,000 member blog) by default. It was much more fun writing for AC, which named me the Content Producer of the Year for politics in Jan., 2009, for my coverage of the 2008 presidential campaign. I also write for my own stand-alone blog (www.WeeklyWilson.com), which pays me the princely sum of $0.00, thereby more-or-less blowing Buzz's comment about how we all write for $ out of the water. I even went so far as to attend a workshop in NYC given by Shaun Ketterman of Oregon on "Monetizing Your Blog." I learned that the reason Mr. Kettrman was able to make money with his own blog (which he sold for 6 figures) is that he is an I.T. guy and wrote "how to" articles about Apple products as they were released. Then, he sold his blog for six figures and moved on to begin plumbing the depths of the Android market, I believe. I am not an I.T. person. In fact, I am as far from a technology geek as it is possible to get if you learned to type on a manual typewriter in 1962. Nevertheless, I soldier on, as a member of this writing site (which has paid me nothing for over 20 articles contributed since April, 3 months ago) and I continue to publish books ("The Color of Evil," novel; "Hellfire & Damnation II," short stories; and "The Christmas Cats in Silly Hats," an illustrated children's book, all on Amazon under Connie Corcoran Wilson). I am not even sure if I understand what this blog is all about, but I tried Triond and could not figure out how to post pictures and wrote them for instructions without receiving a response. I also did not like Suite101, which had a horrible number of rules & regulations and took all the joy out of writing. And I am not a "How to" I.T. person (like Shaun Ketterman). If I were, I would write for the "How to" sites and perhaps make some money doing it, but, for now, I'll stick with "writing long" (i.e., books) as a publishing entity (www.quadcitieslearning.com) and contributing to the 8 blogs I have written for, so far, (www.blogforiowa.com; www.weeklywilson.com; www.AssociatedContent.com; www.Yahoo.com; www.JollyJo.com; www.SpeakAboutIt.com; www.Helium.com and www.wikinut.com). And I'll continue "writing long" (14 books since 2003) with books that span the genres, but ultimately will come to rest in thriller/horror novels and short stories. I'm an active voting member of: IWT, AWP, HWA, IWPA, MWC, MWA and Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Professional Society for Women Educators. In addition, I'll be in the streets of Chicago this coming weekend (June 9 and 10) at the IWPA (Illinois Women's Press Association) tent on Saturday and at the HWA (Horror Writers' Association) and MWA (Midwest Writers' Association) on Sunday. After that, I'll be presenting in Hawaii over Labor Day at Spellbinders Conference (www.SpellbindersConference.com) and hoping that all our fortunes improve on a day when Houghton-Mifflin just filed for bankruptcy.

Actually when compared to many paying and non-paying publishing sites, Wikinut is the best, at least for two most important things: visual pleasantness and the benefit of interacting with an intelligent, good and decent community. Many so called famous sites are very mean in providing writers with good fonts or headings or layouts even when the writers are exceptionally good. They reserve it for writers who pay them or for those who are their privileged writers. Wikinut does not do this indecent thing. Its facilities are shared by all, irrespective of readership, earnings and badges, a kind of pagan equality. And I have never seen an offending comment, even when the article is criticized severely. This is because it is a community of refined writers and litterateurs.

It's great to learn about these things. I have already tried Triond which is actually my first writing site, then Factoidz and now Knoji where I'm doing great, tried Squidoo but was not able to publish yet, and other sites which I explored for better interface. I liked Wikinut as I could write here and publish in a less cluttered page. I find the other sites too riddled with ads. Wikinut appears to be the best platform for serious, quality content. I don't mind much the payment thing. I just want to share my knowledge and those things I love to write about. I will be posting here mostly educational materials for students based on my field work.

Glad I found you Buzz - following you and I'm sure I will learn a lot from your articles. I was with AC but when they became Yahoo-ised, I was unable to access my account. Still can't. Support was non-existent. Registered with Triond but haven't written for them yet and may not. Found Wikinut and it seems to be right for me.
