Great album, from great artist, you can say, album of the year.

Fusion jazz at his best

First of all,i like jazz. Sure,i listen lot of different music, but somehow,i always stay with jazz. Don't get me wrong, i'm not 70 or more years, who is tired of all pop music, and, now try to relax with some, easy going jazz pop. Actually , i'm close to 40,and,i was going to music gigs for long time. And,somehow pop/rock music become boring for me,so i find out that jazz is everything that i want. Maybe, you will say that i like all those pop jazz,or acid jazz bands, Well, some of them are quite good, but,i prefer classic fusion jazz, from golden era, that means from 1970. And,it will be even better if bands have some genius piano player, just like Ahmad Jamal. And,that genius piano player make this record in 2012. For me,this was a record of a year. First of all, this is not a modern record. You can't hear a new technology in manipulating sounds. This album smells old, but,i think that those old vibe is his best quality. Someone will say, that Ahmad is playing on safe field, cos he play such a standards like
"Woody'n You" (Dizzy Gillespie),or,"Laura" (David Raksin - Johnny Mercer),but,Ahmad doesn't have to proof anything. He was born before second world war, and,Miles Davis point him as a big influence,so at the age of 81,when this album was made,he was on level, that he make album just for pure joy. And,that joy you can found on this album. Simple, and, old fashioned, but real masterpiece.
P.S. - For those of you asking what musician brought on this album,i like to say that he brought only first class players. You have Reginald Veal on double bass, he is 30+ years younger then Ahmed, but, they are surprisingly connected. Also,on drums, you have Herlin Riley, and, his connection with Ahmed is more than 25 years. First one was on Ahmad album "Digital Works",from 1985. Behind Ahmad his portfolio is so big, from "Dr.John",to "Wynton Marcalis". And,last one was little surprise for me,percussionist "Manolo Badrena",who have deep roots into latin music. But,he play perfectly, and, you can hear that on this record. After all,he was playing with "The Zawinul Syndicate",so,i think he was wise pick from great Ahmad. All in all,if i have to choose, and,to rate this album ,i will give 5 stars, and, that will be more than "The Guardian"columnist give. In time when many people wonder if Ahmed is still alive,he make some powerful record, that actually no one expect from him. And,don't been fooled from someone talk that this album is close to pop jazz. This is music,so pure ,and,so powerful, that you can loose your sense of time while you listen. Essential in every aspect, and,i must say, that this record is something that you must have,if you like any kind of music. Every serious jazz lover must have this.
