My Review Of The Live Well Network

I have seen some of the programming from this network and I was impressed on the type of programming that they offer. What is interesting that some of shows can cover different types of topics and the shows can not be strictly categorize in one topic. The programming that is offered from Live Well Network are similar to the ones that you see on the Food Network, the Travel Channel, HGTV and a couple of other cable channels. And one advantage to watch the programming on here is that people who do not have cable, satellite companies will be able to see this free over the air digital television.

Discontinued Network

The Live Well network vice president Peggy Allen president Rebecca Campbell of the ABC Owned Television Stations have maded a jointly announcement on June 9, 2014 to the Live Well Network's staff that they planned to shut down the network in January of 2015. Both Campbell and Allen stated that despite the sucess of the network, the division wanted to prioritize "local content" and it's "core local news brands". Some of the Live Well programming shows might be able to move over to the fyi cable network, a network in which the ABC nwtwork holds a half interest in with Hearst Corporation via the A&E Networks joint venture. Many of the ABC's stations are expected to end production.

On January 13, 2015 in an announcement by Green Bay affiliate WBAY-TV (and later that the announcement was confirned by Chicago media writer Robert Feder), that ABC announced that the network would be extended for two more months from their previous closing date of January 16, 2015 with a revised program schedule to allow their remaining affiates additional time to find subchannel programming. A few days later, ABCOTS and the E.W. Scripps Company announced a pickup of Katz Broadcasting's new subchannel LAFF, including the DT3 subchannels of the ABC O&O stations, as of April 15, 2015; within that announment, ABCOTS stated the Live Well Network would continue on their eight stations on their DT2 subchannels in HD, but no longer be distributed outside of the ABC O&O stations and will not produce any new episodes of Live Well programming.

In an about-face, ABC will continue to operate the Live Well digital multicast channel on its eight O&O stations although it no longer be offered to outside stations.

The ABC O&Os have also picked up the LAFF channel, which is run by Atlanta-based Katz Broadcasting to fill another of its multicast channel slots. The comedy-themed channel, which offers programs a mix of vintage sitcoms and theatrical features.

ABC which had previously said it would pull the plug on Live Well Network by the end of January. The channel was launched in April 2009 as syndicated service aimed at capitalizing on the multicast real estate on ABC and other stations. Live Well, which features programming that was largely produced out of ABC’s stations, will no longer be offered to non-ABC O&Os as a syndicated multicast service. As of last June, Live Well had about 50 non-O&O affiliates.

Nice review of the network. I only have a TV antenna, but I might watch if I had cable or satellite services.

Phyl, the network runs digital and it could be a sub- station from one of your local stations which could be picked up on your TV antenna. Check it out if it is available in your area.

Your article and review is right on the mark. LWN,Cosi TV and other sub-stations will gain more viewers once the novelty of high priced re-runs wears off. FYI: Free local HDTV/VHF/UHF signals are available via a multi-directional digital flat antenna.
