A true to life thriller depicting the escape of six Americans from Iran.

Argo, A Great Movie

I wasn’t sure I wanted to see this movie because I thought it might be heavily politicized. It was a pleasant surprise to see that Ben Affleck avoided any politicizing of the movie other than to show how government officials were wishy washy in making decisions as to how to free the government employees who had escaped the Iranian embassy when it had been taken over in the ’80s.

The first part of the movie showed the frustration of the CIA people involved in trying to figure out how to get 6 people who had escaped the mob that had taken over the embassy and held captives for 444 days. These 6 people were hidden in the Canadian ambassador’s home. We saw the waffling of government officials in deciding to back the phony movie idea of getting the CIA operative, played by Ben Affleck, into Iran as a movie producer to fool the Iranians into letting the people who were being hidden out of the country.

The second part of the movie was truly tension filled even though, historically, we knew that they did exit the country. The acting was superb and true to life. Affleck has shown himself to have matured into a serious actor and a terrific director. The movie is worth the four stars the ratings given to it. That's my take on it and I’m very critical of movies. It was entertaining and exciting, but even more, it gave us a piece of history that couldn’t be told at the time.
