Bad Words is a comedy directed and starred in by Justin Bateman. It came out in 2013.

I love movies, comedy and science fiction being my two favorite genre. One comedy that I want to review here now is one directed and starred in by Justin Bateman. I like Justin a lot and have ever since he started out. He does well at playing just about any role he ends up with from Family Ties (I think it was that he started with) to Arrested Development on cable. This is another example of him playing the part well.

Filmed in 2013, Bad Words is about a 40 year old man who has decided to enter spelling bees. Each of these spelling bees is put on by the same organization, which is important to the story but that is all I will say except that there are deep seated issues and reasons for his insistance on taking part in a contest usually participated in only by children..

The only other thing I will say is that he is absolutely determined to win, until he isn't. It also shows his struggle to balance his anger about his past with acquiring and accepting friends in the now. That he does eventually make the right decision is not always a foregone conclusion but finally does indeed happen.

I would give this movie a 4 1/2 on the 5 vickiemeter chart, and especially if you appreciate comedy mixed with pain, you will find it fascinating.

Here is a trailer to give you a little introduction.
