This is my view on the beginning of his famous book Dreams from My Father. His lifestory written by the man himself.

Dreams From My Father

After reading up to chapter four I am stunned by this book. I automatically thought it would be like every other public figure’s writing, full of facts and figures that are difficult to comprehend and remember. Barack Obama’s book Dreams From My Father is fantastic. Even though I have only read a small amount of it I am hooked. He has been totally honest about his upbringing and family, each character written about, loved in their own way. It is clear he is very much a family man and this is still portrayed by the media as an influence to families.

A little bit of History

Barack Obama is the first African American to become President of the United States and is such an inspirational character. His book, written by himself in 1995, discusses his childhood life in Hawaii and Indonesia. His return to Hawaii to live with his grandparents and joining an American school. He also describes a time when his father came to visit him. His father was Kenyan and went to America on a scholarship. Here he met Obama’s mother.

Why is this Book so Appealing?

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Obama and his life. He describes what its like to be one of very few black children attending a white dominated school and goes on, I assume, to describe his life before politics. I am just stunned at this book as it is truthful and tells it like it is. No covering up the truth about his past. I find this to be very influential as it encourages others to not be embarrassed or shy about where they come from. Although racism is still seen throughout the world, having an African American President in the USA is a big step forward for America and is influential to the rest of the world. It implies the message that times have changed and I think this is very important. If you have the chance I would take some time to read Barack Obama’s Dreams From My Father and maybe you will be as inspired to learn more about American History as myself.
