Have you ever wondered what it was like inside the kidnappers homes of Ariel Castro? Have you ever wondered what it was like to be kidnapped and held hostage for over 10 years?

Why I chose this book

I choose to read, Finding Me, A Decade of Darkness, A life Reclaimed by Michelle Knight because I grew near the neighborhood this happened in. Three girls went missing in the neighborhood and two of the three were always on the news. The city was always having search parties for them and on the anniversary of their disappearance they were always back on the news. Everyone I knew thought they had to dead but their families never gave up on them. This happened so close to me that I really wanted to learn more about what happened and how no one knew they were locked up in this house.

My thoughts on the book

I loved this book and it was probably one of the quickest reads I have ever done. I finished it within three days of purchasing it. Michelle Knight did an excellent job telling her story without a lot of gruesome details. She made you feel like you were there with her. I'm sure after being locked in a room for over 10 years that it wasn't hard to remember every detail of the room.

Michelle was the one girl that was not constantly on the news every year. In fact, when they were rescued no one knew who she was. The book explains why no one knew she was kidnapped by explaining what her life was like before the kidnapping happened. When I started reading the book I didn't want to be reading about her life before the kidnapping but then realized it had a major impact on her story.

Would I recommend

I would definitely recommend this book to others. It was an easy read and I really enjoyed learning the story from their point of view and not just what reporters told us. It gives a great lesson to people that you need to be careful around everyone you think you may know. So definitely go pick this book up.

Excellent review, but a terrible indictment of the US police and FBI which could not find the girls

The book only talked about her experience and didn't explain the US police and FBI's side. Now that would be an interesting read if they came out with a book explaining why they could not locate them.
