This article reviews a book by an author who wants to help you to explore your own self-awareness, and then assist you to realise your full potential.

A lot of other books might promise to do this for you too.

This book though, in my view, delivers the goods. It will change you, motivate you, and excite you to live a full, and actively fulfilling life, on purpose for your soul, fulfilling its mission for you.

John Frederick Demartini, the author

The author of this book is well-known in the self-development field. He is the founder of the, "Concourse of Wisdom School of Philosophy of Healing."

Here is a link to his website.

"Dr. Demartini is considered to be one of the world's leading authorities on human behaviour and personal development."

This above quote about him is taken from this website.

The book under question here is another one of the many books that he has written.

The author runs a two day course on this subject, also named, "The Breakthrough experience."

Here is how his website advertises this event, as paraphrased by me:

"The Breakthrough Experience has helped thousands of people around the world reawaken an enthusiasm for living, develop a strong sense of direction, and overcome their most burdensome of challenges."

"You are taught how to manage your emotions and resolve feelings of shame, guilt, anger, resentment, fear, anxiety, intimidation, grief and loss that may be holding you back from being inspired by your life."

"He talks about empowering you, activating mental genius, finding vocational direction, obtaining certainty, success and fulfilment, gaining financial stability and prosperity, embracing spiritual certainty, understanding social leadership and power, familial intimacy and communication, as well as about obtaining an optimal level of physical health and wellbeing."

"The Breakthrough Experience then in short is about clarifying our direction and identifying the most important goals that we would like to achieve both now and in the future. The outcome promised is that we will unfold into a more meaningful, inspired, and purposeful life."

His book promises that you will obtain the same experience as if you had attended one of his seminars.

The book: A Revolutionary New Approach to Personal Transformation

We all have two sides of ourselves he says here. We should never waste time defending either one of these sides to anyone else, including to ourselves. We are both the saint and the sinner, he claims.

Is this entirely right though?

Is it true that we all have got a bit of Christ and the devil within us, or a Jekyll and Hyde character about us?

This is right as far as it goes in the lower worlds of duality, but as you reach higher up, into the God worlds, this duality aspect drops away, and all that is left is perfection, light, and love.

We must all aim to move away from the negative, not towards its opposite, or to the positive, but to love. When we do this, love allows us to experience all aspects of itself in the best possible of ways then.

Sometimes this will be seen as being negative by some, and sometimes as being positive by others, but these are mere label's and when we live from love alone, we lose all attachment then to any label then at all.

Obtaining help from a book

"You cannot open a book without learning something."

This quotation comes from that ancient Chinese sage, Confucius, (551 BC to 479 BC).

And I guess this is as true today as it was when he first said it!

John Demartini is a great believer in applying the tried and true Universal principles of truth to our lives.

Dedicate your life to your dream, but follow these principles to obtain it!

We all have a purpose here on the Earth he says. Our purpose is only crystal clear when we are being guided by our souls.

Our mission has three components he tells us here in his book. These are, being, doing, and having. He claims this mixture is a self-balancing mixture. We should not just pursue one of these on its own.

Is he entirely right here or not though, what about love?

Love sits on the top of these three things, and guides you within each one.

Without love, pursuing each of these becomes an individualistically selfish pursuit done only for self gain, but with love everyone else benefits, and you do things for the greater purpose then too. It's all about you following either your ego's agenda for you, or your soul's purpose for you.

This is a great book. I hope your reading of it will bring you some benefits, as it did to me.

A lot of people have a problem with the question of 'evil'. or negativity. What they forget is that we live in a dual world. As has been pointed out before, we cannot see the light without the shadow.

To embrace one's shadow is to become whole again.

Yes thanks Christopher. It is certainly unhealthy not to embrace our shadow.

A person is merely a shadow of the reality, but not reality itself. A shadow is related to reality, but by itself it is not real.

Evil is the shadow of inattention. In the light of self-awareness it will wither and fall off.

Nisargadatta Marahaj

Our shadow is of course all that we are currently negating as real, and calling it unreal.

We think that our unrealness is real in other words, and we call the real realness, unreal.

Only the real exists though.

On the other hand, it is up to each one of us to embrace the reality that we feel is real though, because only we can feel our reality within the greater reality of God's oneness, so that we can then separate the sheep from the goats, the unreal from the real.

Not excepting your shadow self, is not fully excepting yourself. If, you do not full except everything about yourself than how can you expect to be one with God.

yes, good point brendamarie.

That's true if the shadow self is real, and not an illusion.

Would God have such a shadow self too?

Can total light have ever shed a shadow?

Can darkness exist in total light, or in the oneness of light and love?

As above so below says an old credo, if God has no shadow self, neither really do we either, unless we are God's shadow self....

Thanks for the review and your thoughts Spirited. We should do justice to our emotions but also choose our path that adds value to the creative process. We should be aware of our negative side so that we are not trapped by it - siva

thanks siva,

if we can become aware of our negative ways, without negating them, (we will always have both negative and positive forces working in us I feel) this will enhance our positiveness, we will not be trapped by our negativeness. then as you put it.
