Here is a brief summary of my opinion about the current Van Halen CD, "A Different Kind Of Truth."

The Truth Hurts...

A Different Kind Of Truth is Van Halen's first studio album of new songs in more than a decade, and their 12th studio release overall. When I heard that orignal singer, David Lee Roth, had returned to the group, I was very interested to see what they would have to offer this time around. Then I heard the album's first single, a song called "Tattoo," and based on the vibe of that song, I decided to hold off on purchasing the album for a least until I could listen to the album in its entirety, and decide if I liked it enough to buy.

Well, I recently got that opportunity. I became a Spotify subscriber a couple of weeks ago, and got the chance to hear it there. Now that I have, I am very glad that I did not waste the money. I have to say that as a long-time Van Halen fan, this album was a complete disappointment to me. There isn't a single track on it that is memorable! It sounds like a collection of demos that they slapped together and stuck out for a quick buck! Don't get me wrong, the songs aren't completely horrible, but considering the level of musical ability that is in this band, they do fall woefully short of what they should be! As disappointed as I was by the above mentioned song "Tattoo," it was unfortunately, the best of the lot!

In addition to that, the tunes have absolutely no fire or energy in them. If you can get through the entire album without going numb with boredom, then I take my hat off to you. I did so only by the sheer force of will. The band sounds tired and indifferent on this one; I definitely did not feel that they put their hearts into it! It's sad to say, but I think their best days are behind them. As a fan, this also makes me a little angry. I mean, they had more than 10 years to write and record this album, and this is the best that they could come up with? I always tend to feel cheated when a band takes that long in between albums, and then presents its fans with a completely mediocre product, which this is in every sense of the word! Sorry guys, but if you want me to spend my money on you, then you're gonna have to do a lot better than this! I'm giving this album two out of five stars...and as far as I'm concerned, that's being generous!

Yea, sometimes truth hurts...
mostly when we're more anticipating as in the case of this album!

Indeed...and I was definitely anticipating a great deal more than I got when I heard it! Thanks for reading, and for the comment!
