The WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY recalls us of the favorite books which inspire us.These books, make us run out of doors and which are also great enough to stop us from moving further.Keep us surfing through the pages to learn and rediscover the nature and its beauty.

Walking (1862)

Its an essay by Henry David Thoreau

Though it was published half a century ago, it throws light on the fact that humanity was being disconnected from the rest of the universe .The long essay shows that humanity was not up to the its potential. Its slightly woven with the early American Ideology.
Its for those who prefer Wild Backyard and give wings to thoughts than arranging Beautiful Front Gardens or Caging Birds and Chicks.
It even reminds us of the pleasures of discovering beauty beneath the rocks and tree tops. This is where, we can find Nature and its Hidden Beauty.

Excerpt "Let me live where I will, on this side is the city, on that the wilderness, and ever I am leaving the city more and more, and withdrawing into the wilderness".

Silent Spring (1962)

A story by Rachel Carson

Its a story, actually a set of suggestions or precautions about our war against diseases and insects which has made our environment even worse. The birds which depend on them for food, have also been prey for the insecticides and sprays.

The loss of bird songs due to the progress of chemicals , is irreversible and we need to take measures to balance the environment without harming birds, but try to improve the Chemical World as well.

Small is Beautiful (1973)

By E.F.Schumacher
"The Proper use of land "
Its an essay on the relation of man and nature or the lifestyle of the society.
For the farmers, LAND is LIFE. But , for the government , its nothing but Power and thus, many number of acres are owned by the government and thus the war between the corporations and government has been described in the essay.
There is no significance for the lowering of costs or production of income but the government is more involved in agricultural operations. This is what essay states.
It provokes the reader to think about the relation between man and nature.

One Straw Revolution (1978)

By Masanobu Fukuoka

Fukuoka has his own experiences of growing Rice and Citrus. Thus, the essay gives much importance for natural farming as well as the scientific method.
Thus, people start thinking farming as a balance of both the methods. This also proves that nature can be known within the confines of Human Understanding.

Bombay Natural History (1996)

By Salim Ali

It contains essays about tracing Migratory Birds ,spotting wild cats , trapping elephants and hunting tigers.

Walking may have been published in 1862, but the author hit it on the head concerning the "disconnect" from the universe. Technology always does that to people. Connecting with nature and all of it's beautiful treasures is a much needed brain defragger.

We should never overlook simple lifestyle that gives us happiness. I feel we make our lives too complicated with less time for what really matters - siva
