Elrey Foods is a local south side grocery chain that has stores in the Hispanic neiborhood and carries a complete Hispanic grocery line. They currently have three locations in the city of Milwaukee mainly on the south side. Elrey was founded by Ernesto and Heriberto Villareal.

About Elrey Foods

Elrey has been around on the south side of Milwaukee since 1978. The store was founded by Ernesto and Heriberto Villareal, who wanted to bring products from Mexico to the people of Milwaukee. They serve not only to the Hispanic people that live near the stores but also to all the races who are interested in buying their product from their stores.

When Ernesto and Heriberto Villareal opened their store in 1978 on South 16th Street (now César Chávez Dr.), they didn't realize it was going to be one of the largest Hispanic owned corporations in Milwaukee and in Southeast Wisconsin. Their original store on César Chávez Dr. had expanded three times until they built a much bigger store across the street in 2007.

They have currently have three stores in the south side. The first one Nuevo Mercado El Rey is located at 916 South César Chávez Dr.. The second location El Rey Foodmart is located at 1320 West Burnham. The third one El Rey Plaza is located at 3524 West Burnham. They are in the process to open a fourth store which they are hoping to open sometime in spring of 2012, El Rey Family Market at 5200 W. Oklahoma Avenue.

Today, El Rey servres just about every restaurant in Wisconsin that serves Mexican cuisine. Their wholesale division is located at 704 W. National Avenue.

If you are unable to visit one of their fine stores, you can find El Rey products like corn and flour tortillas, chips, salsa and other products in other stores around Milwaukee.
