Thomas Lowrie is sweating in his garage. His neighbor asks him to throw some things out from her home. He does the good neighborly thing and out of curiosity takes home an old suitcase. What happened next was amazing for me to read.

Becoming someone else

Thomas Lowrie wrote this awesome book He Was. It's a cross between Historical Fiction and Speculative Fiction. I like it and I want to share it with the world. Thomas became someone elses and shares his experience in a great book.

The Writing of He Was

There have been very few books that have been written this way. Not sure if I ever read one like this one. When I first heard about the book I wasn't too sure of the format. Then it happened, I read the first chapter. I was hooked. I followed Thomas as he became Ray Lafayette. How he learned every new aspect of his new life. In the past no less. During the war in the 1940s. I couldn't stop reading and when I did I felt that I knew two men who have gone through so much.

I thought it was a memoir

Thomas wrote with such clarity and description of the time period that I actually thought that he was simply writing his memoir. Yet he's so young to have done so. I could feel like I was there, feeling the wind in my face, the exhaust fumes of the planes. The camaraderie of his fellow soldiers. He was there alright. He shared that experience with me through his book and I re-lived every moment with him.

Walking in another men's shoes.

Now I understand that statement. To walk in another man's shoe. I always thought it was a saying to try out an old pair of shoes and see how far you could go. No. Thomas walked Ray Lafayette's shoes and he show's us every moment of that journey.A man that did not care for anything later became a man that lived for more. To no longer wish for things to happen, but to live to make them happen.

About Life

Granted Ray Lafayette is a fictional character and he has a lot to teach me about life.
Thomas is proof of that. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I don't want to give you all the details, but trust me on this. He Was, a very good book. I like Ray Lafayette, I think I learned a lot from him.
