The iPod Touch, also known as iTouch, is a portable media player and pocket computer that uses Apple's iOS operating system. Sometimes, you may want to return to a previous version of the operating system or firmware. The iPod Touch is designed to sync with the iTunes program on your computer, and you can change the version of the operating system through the same process synchronization.

Download the iOS firmware version to which you want to change. You can find a link to previous versions of iOS firmware in the resources section of this article.


Open the iTunes program on your computer.


Connect one end of the data cable to the port on the bottom of the iPod Touch, and the other to a USB port on your computer.


Select your iPod Touch from the list of "Devices" on the left side of the iTunes window.


Press the "Option / Alt" on your computer and click the "Restore" button. Select the firmware file you downloaded to the desktop of your computer in step 1. Click "OK".


Wait for iTunes to sync with the iPod Touch. When the process is completed, iTunes will instruct you to disconnect the device is.
