How to put the author photo in the search results of Google

Have you ever wondered why some people's face appears in the search results of Google? How did they do? By simply connecting their site to their Google Plus profile.

In this article, I explain step by step how to make your photos appear in Google results.

A result on Google that includes the photo (or other elements in addition to the title, URL and short description) is called a "rich snippet"

It stands out, is not it? He looks to be more important and more credible. All this is possible thanks to the magic of Google Authorship markup and HTML tag rel = "author".

If the value of this is not obvious, considering that - according to a study on the impact of rich snippets on traffic - the number of clicks increased by 150%, once the photo has been added. This is one of those occasions to give themselves an SEO almost unfair advantage against competitors.

Google has released some basic instructions on how to display the photos of the author in the search results, but are not very detailed in my opinion. So I did some research and some testing. Here's how I did it:

Step one: set up a personal account Google+
First, you need a Google+ profile. Here's the rub. Authorship only works with the Google+ personal profiles, not with corporate pages. So having a Google+ corporate account does not need to have your picture on Google. If you want to display the photo in a company website, these are the sub-steps (otherwise, if it is a blog or personal website, skip to step 4):

Identify a spokesperson for the company, as the business owner or marketing manager.
Imposed on a personal account on Google+. The easiest thing is to do it with a Gmail account. Then in the upper left corner of the screen (black bar), click on the link "+ You", which eventually will become "+ Your Name" when you activate Google+.
Make sure you set the most beautiful photo that has as its profile picture.
Then, it optimizes the personal Google+ account as follows:
Sign in to your new personal account Google+ and click on "Profile" in the upper left, then click the Information tab:
History - (Note: This step is not essential to reveal the photo, but you're at it, you'd better also optimize your presence on Google+) to optimize this section with relevant keywords in complete sentences made sense. Use here the types of phrases that people might search for.
Links> Author - here, be sure to enter the URL of your website or blog. This is absolutely essential, you need to create a link from your personal Google+ account on your blog or website:
Click on "Add custom link" in the "Author":

Now enter the label (the title of your website) and the URL of the home page of your site. Next, do not forget to click "Save".
Step Two: Connect your website to your personal page Google+
Now you need to set up your website properly. Google has made this easier than ever. All you need to do is create a link from your web page or post to your Google+ page with the ID of your profile and an important attribute in the link:? Rel = author. Here's how:

Identify your profile ID - Click on the profile within your Google+ account. Copy the URL that appears at the top of the browser (in the URL box):
Bonus: what about guest blogging?
Blogs can have multiple authors, and consequently different rich snippets for any content that appears on Google. When you write an article on another blog as a guest (guest posting or guest blogging), make sure you provide the correct blog host HTML with a link to your Google+ profile with the attribute? Rel = author for ottienere your rich snippets. Then add a link to the blog that has your post to your Google+ profile using the procedure described above.

I hope that this information will be helpful. Now you can connect to all of the content that you post, and your smiling face will be there next to them on Google.
