Here it is my book, I will now be publishing my book "Angels Watching Over Me," here on wikinut. I hope you will enjoy it.

Acknowledgements

In 1994, I completed my first book. Picking up the Pieces: A Woman’s Journey. I did not have any thoughts of writing another book until I wrote a short story called Angels Watching Over Me. This short story was so well received that I was encouraged to turn it into the novel you are reading today.

I would like to thank the people who encouraged me to write this book. Tony Breja, Maria Doherty, Paula Booher and Rosanne Catalano. Their love and support helped me through this very long process.

I want to thank you Brigitte Martel for allowing me to use your wonderful daughters, Dania and Coralie as characters in the novel. Brigitte you have always been my rock and my anchor from the first day you discovered I could write.

Many thanks go out to my proofreaders: Violet Hall, Kathy Baker, Debra Shiveley Welch. I learned so much from Karin Lacroix, aka Maggie the Magpie. Her editing skills truly enhanced the quality of this book.

I would be remiss not to mention the support I received from my beloved family, Matt the man of my life, and my son Steven. I love both my guys tremendously!

Last but not least I owe everything to Janelle McCarthy, without her help this book would not be published today. Janelle put everything together and got it up and running. Now all you have to do is is to read and enjoy!

Carissa Forbes, a young Black girl of seventeen, leaves her beloved family in rural Nova Scotia to make a life for herself in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Much befalls this young girl as she tries to adapt to big city life. She meets and falls in love with a French Canadian man and is faced with an awful truth at the end of their relationship that changes her life forever.
Carissa has an extraordinary ability to communicate with angels. In all of this, Carissa maintains contact with the spirit world even when she ignores the warnings. Imaginary friends, dreams, fortune tellers and special numbers all play an integral part of this woman life until the end of her journey.

Once her daughter marries and creates a life for herself, Carissa is finally at peace. Her angels have come through for her and she is finally happy.

Prologue

Prologue

Carissa sat watching TV on a cold January evening. She looked around her home. The house was immaculate just the way she liked it. The cream coloured carpet was as fresh looking as the day she bought it, though it was already three years old. The black plush sofa and chair give the otherwise off white room the contrast it needed. Even the black television, stereo console, wall unit, and coffee table all matched. For the first time in her her life, Carissa had the beautiful home she always dreamed about. She no longer settled for broken or rundown furniture. She never expected to be poor again. At the age of fifty seven Carissa had finally reached the place where she wanted to be and life was good.

The phone rang. She decided to let the answering machine pick up. Normally she enjoyed talking on the phone rather than watching TV. This evening she felt like relaxing and shutting the world out. She had a long tiring day of cleaning houses; the only job an uneducated black woman felt she could get in this predominantly french speaking city. Montreal though beautiful, could also be a heartless city for the uneducated, the English speaking community, and the poor.

Ever since Carissa came to Montreal in the days of her youth, she scrimped and saved to make a better life for herself and her child. Only now did she feel she had accomplished her goals. This cleaning lady as she often referred to herself had a tiny nest egg for rainy days.

The television program ended. She took a long hot bubble bath then cuddled up in the sofa chair with a good book. She followed this routine each night until sleepy enough to retire to her bedroom. It appeared she was overtired this evening; her mind drifted from the novel to days gone by. Carissa began to dream about her youth in the rural community where she was born.
