Kept My Attention

Has been a long time that a book kept my attention that I did not want to put it down.

Kept My Attention

The book that I just finished reading was called, "A Discovery of Witches" by Deborah Harkness. My daughter and I were shopping at our local grocery story and I had been thinking about getting a book to read, but had no idea which book I wanted. It had been a very long time that I had actually read a book by holding it in my hands and actually turning the pages. Most of the time I was reading things online and just skimming over the words, but had not settled down to read a whole book.
Searching through the books in the different categories nothing seemed to be getting my attention until I looked up and saw, "A Discovery of Witches," sitting there on the shelf. I liked the title, I felt it was a title that would get a person's attention right away.
It certainly had my attention. Taking the book off of the shelf I continued to look at the front and did not open it up. I could have read the back of the book about the author and what the story was about, but I did not want to be influenced and wanted to develop my own opinion about the book.
Once we arrived back to the apartment I settled down on my bed and began to read. It kept my attention, but the story was slow to start out. I feel it was to be that way in order to build up to the next part of the book. There was a considerable amount of detail and a person had to read it all in order to be able to understand what was going to come next. The characters in the book were portrayed to the point that for the person reading the story would feel as if they had known them for many years.
As I continued to read the book the pace of the story began to unfold quickly making it so I wanted to read so fast and be able to take everything in as quickly as possible. It was as if I could not read it fast enough to know what was going to happen next.
The last part of the book slowed back down and began to put everything together and to tie up the loose ends of the story. The whole book had adventure, unusual relationships, magic, spells, death, war and the start of a new life.
If you have not read this book I recommend it very highly to anyone who wants to spend some time every night with a good book.
