Fantasy films and films based on ancient mysteries often lead us into a world far from our everyday lives and we get so engrossed in them. Remembering one such movie which takes us to such a world.

The lure of Fantasy films

When we are children, our parents and grandparents put us to sleep by reciting us songs and stories. These are stories of fairies, Princes and Princesses, Kings and Queens, Animals and children. Often, we also have demons and witches.
Then, when we start growing up, many of us turn to watching fantasy- animation or otherwise, with stories of Kingdoms, of times gone by, often a bit more violent and full of twists and turns. They start loving the Harry Potter series, and series like The Lord of the Rings. As we grow up, such fantasies are replaced by the demands of education and attaining skills for living as we grow up. Still, there come moments when for some of us, like yours truly.
Fantasy Movies- whether animated or otherwise holds our attention. Their plots showing a bygone, often ancient eras, the stories of Kings and Queens, and evil"est" villains, the hidden treasures, the unsolved mysteries captivate us and take us into a different world altogether.

I have some such personal moments when I see the movie series of "The Mummy". And among the three movies of this series, I fondly recall one movie which I had first watched on a Movie theater with my friends, and a few times afterwards on TV.
This movie is "The Mummy Returns" starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in the lead roles, supported by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Patricia Velásquez and Arnold Vosloo.
The movie is directed and written by Stephen Sommers.

The story has a lot to do with Egypt- the Pyramids and the Desert. I am not sure where the actual shooting took place but the overall effect is quite marvelous.

The Movie Plot in short and more...

Around Five Thousands of Years ago, The Mathayus of Akkad (Scorpion King)is on a mission to conquer the world. His army gets defeated when attacking Thebes and he is exiled to the Ahm Shere desert. His men die of exhaustion. Subsequent events make Scorpion King's soul to be assimilated into Anubis, and an oasis forms to hide Scorpion King's pyramid, who gets a legion of jackal warriors in Anubis' image.

Its the year 1933, and Rick and Evelyn O'Connell explore a ruined mortuary in ancient Thebes with their son, Alex, where they stumble upon the bracelet of Anubis. Destiny has it that they all need to unravel the mysteries of the Anubis army, as well as fight Scorpion King and Imhotep to save Alex. They are supported by Evelyn's brother Jonathan and the Medjai Ardeth Bay.
The story is then goes through a maze of twists and turns, reincarnations and revival of old souls, fighting between modern and the ancient, and a gripping climax.
The good ones prevail over the bad ones, and things are all fine.

Here is a Movie Trailer Video:

The movie did well on box office, though as per many, this movie was not as good as its predecessor movie "The Mummy"(1999). I like the comic timing of Brendan Fraser and the stunts in this movie. At times, the movie is a bit boring, but overall, it maintains a good tempo, and is worthwhile to enjoy.
