A personal take on the sequel to comedy-drama movie Tanu Weds Manu(2011), full of twists, turns, drama and comedy

Brief background of the Movie

Since last 10 years or so, Bollywood has embraced the sequel concept of Hollywood. Many movies have been made, some going even upto Part III. Tanu Weds Manu Returns continues this trend.
It is a sequel to the 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu.
Kangana Ranaut, R. Madhavan, Jimmy Shergill, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar and Eijaz Khan all had roles in the original and play their characters in this movie too. Kangana Ranaut also portrays the additional role of a Haryanvi athlete in it.

Movie Plot in brief

In Part I, Tanu(Kangana Ranaut) and Manu(R.Madhwan) have married and four years later they develop relationships problem and visit marriage counselors where they start bickering at each other. Because of Tanu's various allegations, Manu gets enraged, and is later taken by the
doctors into custody suspecting his mental health.

Due to some reasons, Tanu leaves for India and to her hometown, Kanpur. While leaving London, Tanu rings Manu's friend Pappi in Delhi and tells him to come to London and release Manu.

Tanu's parents are not happy with her strained marriage, but they are unable to do much. She develops flirty relationship with her tenant Chintu, and also her ex-boyfriend, Raja
Awasthi(Jimmy Shergill), who is getting engaged to another girl.

Manu is rescued from the asylum and comes back to India, where he sends a legal notice to Tanu, who does not respond. Manu meets a young girl Kusum, who looks like Tanu in Delhi, and wants to marry her.

From there, the story has many twists and turns, full of drama and humor. In an interesting climax, Tanu and Manu reunite, aided partly also by the happy go lucky Kusum, and the film has a happy ending.

A Personal Note

The movie has been a big hit. This I feel has mostly been due to word of mouth publicity and a great effort by Kangana Ranaut, who excels in the double role. Madhawan and Jimmy Shergill too play their roles well.
I liked the movie, but at times, it feels a bit lacking. May be, next time, they can add some more original thinking in the plot to make it better.

Confusing confounding all that you can expect from twins...I loved Kangana Ranaut in Queen. She does have chiseled looks, but I suspect makeup plays a major role. Would love to see in in roles like Priyanka Chopra played in Barfi. Then I could say she is beautiful too. For now, she is a good actress. :)

I could never stand movies mostly because of the stuffy atmosphere in the movie halls.
Now of course, things have changed and everyone has a media center at home.
Enjoyed reading the article Ptrikha.
