My Review of the RCA 10-inch Tablet Model #RCT6103W46

This is my review of the RCA 10-inch tablet from RCA model #RCT6103W46.

Who knew RCA was even still in business?

Yesterday, I was given an early birthday gift of a new 10-inch tablet, made by RCA. The last time I owned anything by RCA, it was an old stereo system back during the 80s. I had no idea they were now doing high-tech gadgetry.

Overall, I'll say I'm pleasantly surprised.

The10-inch tablet from RCA is a well-thought-out machine. It's lightweight, user-friendly and comes with both all the apps you could need and more but also, a wireless keyboard - built-in to the carrying case - included.

Birthdays, weddings and anniversaries or the holidays, I honestly can't imagine an occasion where the10-inch tablet from RCA would not make an excellent gift.

Speaking of gifts, how's the price?

I don't ask how much someone spends on a gift. But, my friend knew I'd be sharing a review, so she told me.

Other brands of tablets - without any accessories - run about $30(US) more than RCA's. So, RCA certainly wins on price, hands-down.

Okay, it's less-expensive. Is it good?

Using the Android 4.2, Jellybean operating system, with a 1.4GHz Quad Core processor, 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera and a 2.0 megapixel rear-facing camera, I doubt there's much the 10-inch tablet from RCA couldn't do, just as well as any other similar brand.

This machine comes with all the bells and whistles I expect from a tablet. I like it.

Is it user-friendly?

Extremely. Being used to Windows, I needed a day to grasp the learning curve. So, most other users might need about an hour to find their way around. But it is certainly user-friendly. If I can work this machine, anyone can.

FTC disclosure

This review is based upon my experience with the product mentioned and is solely my opinion. No agent or employee of RCA paid me in any way for this review.

I just got one for my wife and am not too happy with it yet. Apparently the keyboard needs to be paired with the tablet every time you turn it on. The manual only barely covers the basics and doesn't really help that much, even for an experienced user of tablets, notebooks, laptops, and desktops. We were not able to complete generating a new Google account. It would go crazy when it came time to enter a password. The screen that is supposed to be used for that appears for a fraction of a second and then does not respond to any inputs when attempting to enter a password. I sent a note to Tech. Support and have not received a response back yet, but it has only been 3 hours. They are going to have to give me some good answers or it goes back to the store pretty soon.

I would add to your comments that before to turn on the keyboard, the keyboard has to be charged, if it is not, the tablet won't see it when pairing, I hope this will help in something

This is a nice little tablet. Its fast and the keyboard is awesome. The way I found to keep the keyboard paired was easy.
In the bluetooth settings press the menu icon on the upper right and select Visibility timeout and set it to Never time out.
Now whenever I want to use the keyboard I just flip the switch to on, wait for the little A to show up on the upper left and its good to go. No more pairing up each time.
Hope this helps.

This tablet is awful I had problems with screen flipping all the time. Took three times contacting support for them to tell me to reset to factory specs. Now the WiFi doesn't stay connected and have shut off WiFi and turn back on to reconnect. I have to do this EVERY time the screen locks. The support replied to send it in for repair but didn't supply any info and when I asked about a replacement one and info to send back NEVER received respondce. This tablet is junk and the support is worse than the tablet. DO BUY THIS TABLET

This tablet sucks more trouble than its worth. Freezes up, looses Wi-Fi. Then it wants you to make report. I have made hundreds of reports with no feedback. Now the battery only last about a hour and I find out it has a 1 year factory warranty and I thought great but then I found out they use disappearing ink on the serial number STICKER. BUYER BE WARNED. LOOK IT UP ON UTUBE AND SEE HOW MAY BATTERIES BLOW UP DUE TO CHINA PUTTING THE CHEAPEST BATTERIES POSSIBLE IN THEM...

This tablet is awful mine broke 3 weeks into having it. I sent it back to RCA, and their customer service people are all from India. I have not seen my tablet for now over 4 weeks they have no clue where it is, and I google earth the address I sent my tablet it is an empty warehouse. So someone has my tablet with all my personal information I used it for, so trust me these people dont even live in the United States, my name now will be used for fraud. My life will be ruined all because of RCA. I am sure I will never see my tablet again, so please if yours breaks do not send it to RCA. These people are not even americans and once you send it they claim they dont have it. I am sure they are loving getting americans information off these tablets people are sending back.

Just responding to ME who posted Jan 2015........That is so awful. I really think you need to write a letter to corporate. They need to be made aware of this problem. Hopefully, someone there will be able to track your tablet down. That is so scary for you and a very bad business practice for them.

I had an IPad for many years and when it broke I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a great tablet. I tried a few and returned them being spoiled using my iPad it was hard to find one I liked. Then I tried the RCA pro 10. And I couldn't be happier..its fastand very user friendly. I have had it now for a few months and can't complain about a single thing. I did have issues with keyboard connecting when I wanted to use it but abover commenter red alien is right.and have had no issues since.great tab. AMAZING price.

I have the same tablet and I'm fairly happy with, but when I went to use the keyboard I saw only one option for charging it--a USB to mini cable. Exactly what am I supposed to plug that into? I don't have a home computer. So I used a universal cell charger. It charged up OK, but when I turn the power switch to on no power light and it won't connect. The light does come on when it's charging and goes off when it's done. Any ideas? Thank you.

I got one myself for mobile gaming and I think it is awesome. I could not be happier. For $150 at Walmart you just can't beat it. Even a dumb monkey could use this thing. That's right I'm on it right not using the keyboard and it works great. Plus you can HDMI it to your TV easy, and the 16gb internal memory rocks biggest of the under $200 line. And has a slot for a SD card to really boost memory. All and all very sold tablet good job RCA.

I have been using HP laptops with Windows XP pro for years. I do email, basic word processing, and occasional spreadsheets, and occasionaly watch a tv probram I missed. I also download my digital photos using a USB cable. I do not do games, or other high end tasks, I want to use the RCA for the above when traveling, and connecting with motel wifi. I want a unit to do the tasks I do at home, but is a more compact unit than my old 15 inch HP. Will this computer work for me, assuming I get one that is reliable? Will I have to buy more software that is not included in the package?

Just bought one as a gift for $149 at Wally World. After setting it up and installing all my favorite apps for them I am very pleased. Peppy, good screen size, quality and Bluetooth. All 10's. My only complaint is the key board needs a mini usb to charge it Why did'nt they just use the same jack as the tablet or vice versa so you could interchange with just one charger? Otherwise, great value RCA!

Unrelated to this tablet, the first thing I suggest when folks have a WiFi connection problem is to make sure their router is set up with WPA or WPA2. Don't use WEP. Also don't use mixed mode or "b" if you don't have to.

I've been thru two of these. First one was dropped from a low couch in the case and the screen shattered. The charging port just randomly came out of both keyboards. It's really weak construction in that area. I wonder if a keyboard would work plugged into the usb slot in instead of with bluetooth. The tablet is awesome. Keyboard is horrible.

Had my Pro10 for 2 days, and I love it. I'm not a tablet person; even my phone requires a slide-out keyboard (Droid 4). All I had to do was turn the keyboard on. It attaches via a micro-USB dock attached to the folio. As I'm already an experienced Android operator, setup took about 10 seconds. It'll take longer if you don't already have a Google account, but the process is automated. If you're prone to forget passwords, write yours down. Now, despite some Wi-Fi issues (not network related, as I have at least 2 other devices hooked up at any given time) it's an excellent tablet. Excellent for gaming when the Wi-Fi isn't acting up, but I'm a happy customer, as I bought it to type my manuscript.

Bought a Pro-10 tablet (RCT6103W46) and was quite happy with it until last night. When I powered it up, I got a picture of a dead robot and a "No command." message I couldn't access the recovery system (which would have lost all my data anyway) nor could I shut it off. It was totally unresponsive. I put in a message to RCA support and for "We'll be in touch shortly." That was 14 hours ago. The unit finally shut itself off when the battery ran down and it seems to have started up just fine. Would I buy it again? Yes, but RCA support sucks! Or maybe I just got lucky.

Well' I have had this tablet for one week now. I did not get the one with the wireless keyboard, and it only cost me $99.00 , plus tax so $107.00 total. I love I. My daughter, son in law and my granddaughter all have one. In fact when I saw Thiers is what made me get mine. With this price can't go wrong.. Added 32 gig card to it, so now have plenty of space. Granted, it is not an all powerful replacement for all of your computer needs' but nice to have and does it's job well. Am I happy with it? YES!!! Would I buy it again?? YES!!!! So, good luck all...

Received for a birthday gift. Works well. Has timed out a couple times but works after. The plastic piece on the keyboard broke the second day I had it, need to bring back to get new/repaired. Would suggest they not use small plastic pieces that stick out, maybe leather corners like other tablets have.

I wouldn't recommend the RCA tablet to anyone. Why? My life span of using it was 60 days. I barely used it. My charger port came out, and I didn't know it. It wasn't installed properly. My tablet stopped working, but the wireless keyboard did. Weird! I tried to return it to the retailer and they refused to give me a refund because it was past the 15-day grace period. I contacted the manufacture and they've been working with me to get a replacement. I prefer a refund and think this tablet is a waste of my resources.

I bought this tablet during Walmart's Pre Black Friday Thanksgiving sale. Honestly, I went to Walmart hoping to Pick up the 7" RCA tablet as I didn't know that had this one at the store for the same price as walmart.com. This one came with the Folio and Keyboard for the $79.99 online price as well. After debating for a bit, I went ahead and opted for the Pro 10, and couldn't be happier. This Pro 10 came with KitKat installed, a 1.5GHZ quad core processor and my tablet docks to my Folio and subsequently to the keyboard via docking port in the Folio. I have no keyboard problems to report. The wireless adapter in the tablet is so good, that it picked up a neighboor's Unsecured wireless signal from a house behind mine, while I was in the living room no less. And I live in a house that has a heavily, and I mean, HEAVILY, wooded back yard! Lots of trees, some of which still have plenty of leaves on them. And along the fence row, there are a ton of bushes. Apparently RCA listened to a lot of the negative feedback and improved their latest version of the tablet, because not only has ALL of my hardware ran great, including my wifi being very fast(I had slow WiFi as well until I upgraded my router to a Wireless N, which did the trick for speeding up my internet connection!), but I haven't had a single problem with any app from the Play Store. And I've downloaded several. I waited years to get into the tablet game(Well other than a Fujitsu LTC-500 I had several years ago, which wasn't near as good of an experience as the Pro 10). I watched many Tablets come and go, and After buying my wife a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" Tablet, which only has a 1.5GHZ Dual Core CPU, albiet a much higher resolution screen as well, I couldn't be happier with this one. The screen is more than big enough for everything I want to do, and with the extra CPU cores, if I should decide to do a bit of light gaming on here, I'm sure that this tablet will even be well suited to that task as well provided the game developer makes his game capable of multi core usage, which by the way, most video and photo editors already do. So to those of you, who have commented on that, you may want to give it a shot. Well I'm going to fire up a few emulators on here soon and see how well this thing can run Windows 7, Commodore 64, and Commodore Amiga, just for "SaGs".

Got this tablet during black Friday and was pleased with it overall. However, after only about 2 weeks the tablet would no longer power on and was rendered unusable. I have now spent over a month trying to communicate with RCA via email to get a replacement. I cannot recommend this to anyone. Buyer beware!

December 27, 2014 I bought the 10" tablet. January 27, 2015 it quit working, it would not power up. I also bought the protection plan. I took it back where I bought it. They told me I would have to deal with RCA. RCA a company at one time you could trust. RCA, the worst 3 letters in the alphabet. As a complete unit, tablet, keyboard or power cord could be bad. RCA will not send you a complete unit, they will only send one piece at a time. You see the problem, 3-4 weeks to ship, it could take 3 months to get a working tablet. To me this is terrible customer service. Not to mention the new tablet you bought, you will receive a refurbished one. February 13th I was told I could call and get a tracking number. I called on the 17th, another lie, no tracking number. Needless to say, I will never - ever buy anything from RCA again.

We have gone through 2 of these tablets since Christmas. Totally disappointed!!!! Both tablets had issues while one froze on a black screen and you couldn't shut if off the other one just quit working and wouldn't charge.

I bought a 10" tablet 12/27/14 and it quite working 1/27/15. They told me 3-4 weeks before I would get a replacement. Today is 3/5/15 and I still haven't received a replacement. Each time I call them I get the run a round. I thought RCA was a brand you can trust. I have caught them in lies. One of the customer service reps told me I wouldn't get a tracking number until my replacement was delivered. Today, 3/5/15 I called and they told me call back in 3-4 days. That will be 5 weeks and I bet they still won't ship it. I comes down to customer service and product satisfaction, they have neither. RCA is not honest and they have no integrity. I will never ever by anything from them again.

After reading the reviews, it appears there is more negative feedback than positive. It appears RCA doesn't read the reviews or they would be doing a better job with their product and customer service..

I think we should all get together and fill a class action suit against RCA.

Bought two tablets on black Friday for both my husband and myself, great price. 3 months later one tablet just stopped working and the other stopped the very next day. After the other
comments, I don't think I'll bother trying to get them serviced.

Bought 3 at Christmas and have had 2 quit after only 5 weeks of use. JUNK! I want my money back! You want me to pay to send it to you for repair? No thank you...just give me a refund. I will buy a Kindle.

Similar problems with charging. Within a week of purchase the 5V charger didn't work. Used the USB port and that has worked for about 4 months. All of a sudden that doesn't work anymore. I can charge my cell so I am thinking the ports are just junk. When it worked, sometimes my battery would run out within 30 min after a full charge, other times it would work for hours. Yes, same programs. I dealt with that by keeping it charging as I using it. It really is a good tablet----they need to fix the port issue.

I have multiple computers and didn't see a need for a tablet until I found I could use one as a remote monitor for my DSLR camera. After some online shopping I spotted the RCA 10.1 on sale for $98.99 and decided to give it a look. It had a HDMI port, an up to date operating system and about everything I needed. After purchasing it I found that the reviews I had read were for a slightly different machine than mine, specifically, no Bluetooth keyboard. Mine runs off a direct connection to the tablet and needs nothing more than sliding the tablet into the case and flipping the on switch to work. I usually plug a wireless keyboard and mouse into the mini USB port and use a full size keyboard as it fits my hands better.
I have had this tablet for 4 months now an have had absolutely no problems with it and it fits my need as a camera monitor to a T. It plug s into my DSLR and gives me a nice big screen to adjust all my settings and view my shots in a size suiting my requirements.
I love this tablet.
