Just like she wants more every time he leaves, readers want more once they finish this story.

A heartbreaking yet fantastic story

She is tired of waiting for him to come back to her for a night, only to have him leave her in pieces when he leaves again. She knows he's a rock star and he can't be with her every night. He's never made any promises of commitment for her, either. But she wants more anyway.

This story is disturbingly good. Milligan is a genius when it comes to separating and describing all sorts of emotional layers. I totally knew what the main character was going through. I could feel her emotions like they were my own. That almost never happens to me. Especially not for a book that's less than 20,000 words long.

There are some really good sex scenes in here with a dominant male and submissive female, but that wasn't my favorite part. My favorite part was how the woman didn't pretend this was a healthy relationship that she was happy in.

It wasn't the D/s that she didn't like. She really liked that. But he's a workaholic that she can spend very little time with. He's always on tour and even when he comes back to visit he's working most of the day. Normally a negligent love interest pisses me off unless the main character gets angry and confronts him about it, but I wasn't angry reading this because she does know it's messed up, and she's not sure what to do with it.

On top of that, I think he really does care for her. But he doesn't know how to show it or what to do about it. Honestly, I don't know what to feel about him. He's definitely flawed and I spent a lot of time being angry at him for working on the one day he was with her, but at the same time he wants to know her feelings and what she wants. He wants to work things out. But it's most likely a selfish desire because he doesn't want to lose her than because he cares about her. I do know this: he's a bad partner and she could do a lot better.

I'm definitely giving this story 5 out of 5 stars, which is rare for me but warranted in this case. It's not a perfect relationship or even a perfect ending, but I really cared about this story and the characters in a way that almost no stories can. It pulled me in and kept me invested in the story in less than 20,000 words. And that's worth 5 stars.
