Predestination: A movie review

There are two reasons that I wanted to watch this movie to start with. One of them is bound up with my religious education over the years, and the other is because it is science fiction. Science fiction, in case you are one of my readers that doesn't already know that, is my favorite genre.

The actor and idea behind it

This is another movie, like Preservation, that is a bit confusing to me about when it came out. Some things indicate that it was filmed in 2014, but the trailers show 2015. What does not confuse me is knowing who the main character is and what the plot is.

Quite simply this is a Ethan Hawke movie. He is the main character though out. There are other people, obviously, but it all comes back to Ethan.

Now the story line is essentially that some things are bound to happen. Even if we add in the theory of time travel, those things are going to happen. In fact, time travel may actually end up helping them happen, even if the purpose for the travel is supposed to be to prevent it.

It points out very clearly that every action we take, maybe even every thought we have impacts our lives and the lives of others. We never know how, oftentimes until years later, and sometimes not at all.

The actual movie

This particular movie, I think, was excellently done. I liked Ethan in it, and love the idea and the execution of that idea. Did I have questions at the end. Yes, but questions I could live without the answer too. That makes it pretty much what we have to deal with in real life.

Would I recommend this movie? Heck yes, especially if you like subtle plots with twists and science fiction as a genre.

This does sound intriguing. I think that one of the best time travel movies is "The Terminiator".

yes, indeed Eve - but Terminator is less nuanced than this one, I think. :)
