A review of Halo Wars, the Halo based Real Time Strategy Game!

Halo Wars

Halo Wars was created by Ensemble, the creator of Age of Empires 2. I have not played many real time strategy games (RTS), but I gave this a shot because I feel that the Halo franchise is overall pretty good, and despite Ensemble being a different company I believed that it would be hard to go wrong with the massive Halo source material. Even with my limited RTS skills I was immediately able to pick up the game and dive into the campaign. While the story was a little different than other halo games that I am used to, the different commanders and special abilities made for interest strategies that changed based on your enemy. The tech and upgrade tree is easy to understand and building rates seem pretty balanced allowing for fair play. As I continued through the campaign it got more challenging and thus more entertaining.

Another benefit of the game is its xbox-live capabilities and I have to say that this could be a massive hit if it were not for the player base. Since I feel that the game is balanced it offers a perfect chance to fight on equal terms with other people. Unfortunately usually when you encounter players they quit as soon as they feel they might lose and thus I hardly got to have any complete battles.

I believe halo wars is a pretty good game and worth the buy. If you find people to play against that make it fun, then the online capabilities make this game a gem.
