In conclusion I’m pleased with the performance of my Pure Digital DMX-25 and I would highly recommend it to people who like listening to music on a DAB radio.

Review of Pure Digital DMX-25: A High Quality DAB Radio and Lots More

Currently I have three DAB digital radio at home. The first one is Grundig Opus DAB Radio; the second one is Alba TRDAB2820 DAB digital radio. The last one is Pure Digital DMX-25, which I have listened to for one and a half year.

About Pure:

DAB is a short for Digital Audio Broadcasting. It was developed in Europe and has become more and more popular as a next generation of radio.

Pure is a division of Imagination Technologies Group plc, which is a British-based maker of a mobile graphics and microprocessor chip technology. Pure is primarily known as the world’s leading manufacturer of wireless music and internet radio systems. Its products include Digital radio, Internet radio, ipod/iPhone/iPad dock and In-Car radio, etc.

Packaging and Features:

Pure Digital DMX-25 comes in a well packaged recycled box, which contains a DAB radio, two speakers, a Mains Cable, a remote control and an instruction manual. The radio is approximately 15cm wide, 16cm high and 20cm deep.

The front of the unit is mainly in a silver colour. A small display screen is in the centre of the front part (a black panel). That can show channel and program information in three lines. There are six functional buttons in two lines under the display screen. They are source, info, presents on the left; menu, time and clock/sleep buttons on the right. A big volume button is in the middle of these six buttons. Under the volume button from left to right are slot for SD card for MP3/WMA playback; Connect to USB flash device for MP3/WMA playback and Analogue stereo input from auxiliary device such as iPod, Minidisc etc. On the top of the radio there is a CD tray, a Power button and three keys which are used to operate CD/SD/USB.

The two sides of the radio are mainly black. On the back there are an analogue stereo input from auxiliary device, F-type connector for DAB/FM aerial, two speaker connectors and a UK power plug adapter removal.

The remote control has a power button in a red colour. 11 functional buttons to switch between DAB, FM, CD, SD card, USB, LINE IN or AUX IN. It is also used to switch unit on from standby. There are also 10 number buttons to recall a present station. Two big volume buttons are at the bottom.

Usage:

You can use Pure Digital DMX-25 to listen DAB & FM radio. You can also use it to play a CD, SD card or USB device, even as a timer and an alarm. You need to follow the instruction manual to setup your options.

Price and Availability:

In the UK you can buy Pure Digital DMX-25 from in many retailers store and websites. You will find the prices around £130.

My opinion:

In 2010 I received my Pure Digital DMX-25 as a Christmas gift. At beginning I didn’t like it. I felt it was too complicated to getting started. The manual is well written. To some users it’s easily to follow. However to me it was a big task. It took me a little while to understand the manual and to properly personalize my radio.

When I used it to listen to radio news program I felt the sound strange. Compare to my Grundig Opus DAB Radio, which has a built in speaker, the radio sound is less clear. However I can’t criticize the speakers. Because when I play CD or listen to FM radio the sound is perfect. I think the radio advantage is to listening music from radio or other devices, such as CD or MP3 player.

I particularly like the remote control. It is comfortable to hold. The design is user-friendly. The number buttons and the volume buttons are mostly used. I’m glad they are at lower part of the remote. It’s so easy to operate. The remote works very quickly. Different from my Philips DVP3880 remote there is almost no delay from the time you push a button to getting a response.

In conclusion I’m pleased with the performance of my Pure Digital DMX-25 and I would highly recommend it to people who like listening to music on a DAB radio.
