I always wondered how to read a court transcript. Kristine Johnson wrote, Writing Wrongs, Certified, Volume 1, where it shows how a court proceedings are reported.

Writing Wrongs, Certified, Volume 1

Kristine Johnson drew me into the court proceedings through her point of view. I felt as if I was there as a witness, as the defense attorney. Most importantly of all, I was there through her eyes. Everything that happened in the court was recorded by the court reporter. She showed me how to read a court report. I didn't feel stupid or as if it was over my head.

Chicago Joe's

It was interesting to read how a Chicago Joe's, a restaurant downtown Las Vegas, was part of the book. I sat where Kristine Johnson had her meals with famous Las Vegas lawyers and judges. When I visited Chicago Joe's, I felt like I was part of history. Not because it's in the book, but because I spoke with Marlene, she and Joe are owners of the restaurant. She shared with me the history of Chicago Joe's. From the time when the Mob owned Las Vegas, to the new corporate takeovers.

Justin Castle

Back in the day of no cell phones or internet, Justin Castle kills his girlfriend. The Henderson police show up and mishandled the evidence. Charlie Savage, the court reporter sees what's happening and just had to get involved. Justin was no ordinary teenager. He was a mean bully that thought that domestic abuse was part of life.
Charlie's marriage mirrors the case. As she focuses on the case, she takes on a new perspective on her own marriage. There are so many things wrong with the case and with her personal life. Something had to change.

You need to read the book

I highly recommend you read the book. I have shared it with family and friends. Some of them remember those days gone by and miss the old phones, memorizing phone numbers, going to the library to do research. Some of us remember The Hair. The hair that was so so high, so bleached and curly. Not to mention the shoulder pads. I can practically imagine Charlie Savage with big, curly, blond hair at the court reporter seat, wearing her business suit with huge shoulder pads, her tight fitting skirt mid thigh, and red pumps. What memories.
