In this article, I review the New Balance 860 version 4 running shoes, which are the latest in the market.

New Balance 860V4 Review

With the introduction of the 860V4, New Balance avails an upper for the first time ever that makes use of both no-sew and stitched overlay through the use of state of the art technologies to design shoes that are not just fitting and comfortable, but also stable.

In order to attain stability, New Balance makes use of the T-Beam engineering and ultimate comfort is achieved through the use of the combination of the cushy ACTEVA® LITE mid-sole and the ABZORB® Crash Pad. Another great feature of the 860V4 running shoes that helps it withstand tear and wear is the outsole made of Ndurance rubber.

In addition to the smartest stability provided by the 860V4, the running shoes offers unmatched confidence at the point of contact that is made a reality through the deployment of powerful technological systems that aid in stabilizing your stride all the way from contact to toe off. 860 version 4 is New Balance’s latest edition of this kind of running shoes. The level of the shoe’s stability that is tried and tested is maintained with the 860V4; provides correction for the runner’s gait over-pronation moderately.

A noticeable difference to users who have used the 860 running shoes for a very long time is the fact that the latest version is a perfect fit. Although previous versions were narrow in design, the 860V4 is redesigned with a more spacious upper for a perfect fit; this makes it a good option for users (moderate over-pronators) whose feet are average in width. The latest edition’s secure and spacious design makes it perfect for users with narrow feet and its comfort is just what users with wider yet flat forefeet need.

Although the 860V4 is designed for users with flat feet, it comfortably fits users with other types of feet. It is for this reason that the latest edition of New Balance running shoes competes with the Asics GT – 200 v 2 and the Brooks Adrenaline 14. Functionally, the outer sole of 860V4 has been redesigned and updated technically for greater flexibility. This is more so true for the outside of the foot that needs more flexibility for ease of movement.

As a result, the runner enjoys a smoother ride not at the expense of moderate over-pronation correction, provisioned by the 860V4. Unlike previous 860 running shoe versions and the products by the competitors that have a heavy feel because of the dense foam within the shoes, that supports the foot for over-pronation correction, the latest version is lighter in weight.

To be precise, 860V4 is 1 ounce lighter than the previous version. This is due to the new kind of mesh installed on the running shoes’ upper. Whereas the version for women is 8.9 ounces, that for men is 10.9 ounces. The trim design of the latest version accounts for its lighter weight and stability. Available for $114.99, what makes the 860V4 ideal for users with flat feet is the fact that it’s cushioned, comfortable, stable, lighter, fitting and supports a faster yet responsive ride.

The Men’s New Balance 860V4

The 860V4 styling and color palette is similar to that of the previous version; the sharp yet eye-catching appeal is intact. Though the shoe is light and stable, it weighs 10.8 ounces. The trimming of the mid-sole might have played a role in the lost one ounce from the previous version. Nothing about the lacing pattern has changed in version 4. The lace holes are double gusseted in order to secure the user’s foot firmly while running. The rounded heel cup’s height is matched to the rounded plush tongue.

The new feel of the shoes is also quite noticeable: the upper is more comfortable and the pavement more accurate. The cushy and unstable feel of the previous version is gone with the 860V4. The PL-12 last on version 4 can fit different runners because the heel is secure and more spacious at the toe box. As a result, runners with different foot sizes and shapes can easily find a fit. It is designed for speed and stability.

The Women’s New Balance 860V4

The women’s New balance 860V4 has a lively yet fresh color scheme, unlike the men’s version. Although the shoes look like women’s stability shoes in general at a first glance, the women’s 860V4’s design and lively color scheme are a surprising yet an excellent addition to the stability shoes’ neutral palette.

Over-pronator’s stability in the women’s New Balance 860V4 is attained through the deployment of the ABZORB® Crash Pad, dense EVA foam and the brand’s T-Beam technology. They are lightweight, comfortable and have a neutral feel. Although the shoes weigh 8.8 ounces for size 7, they are comfortable and stable for the ultimate support.

Moreover, the soft feel and comfort of the upper ensures the runner does not get blisters. Apart from its lightweight and stability, the women’s New Balance 860V4 features a standard instep height, width of the heel, width of fore foot and depth of toe box right out of the box.

The Pros and Cons of New Balance 860V4

 Softer than earlier versions
 More supportive and stable than earlier version
 Faster and comfy
 Lightweight
 Perfect for users with flat feet

 Chunky
 Wide heel counter

Food for Thought

860V4 provides greater cushioning, stability and support than the previous versions. Despite this fact, the mid-sole and heels feel quite chunky. As a wide heel unit, the shoes are wider and very comfortable, making them perfect for users with flat feet. Although the shoes can fit a variety of runners, users with wide yet flat feet would gain the most from using the New Balance 860V4.

860V4 has been reconsidered and redesigned for better functionality and support. The mid-sole has a closer contact with the full ground because it is made using softer materials for better support. However, the heels are quite wide and the shoe itself a bit chunky.

Although 860V4 offer support for correcting over-pronators, it is specifically designed for heavier users with wider yet flat feet. Many people can feel lost in the shoes’ wide heel unit. Although the forefoot is spacious, it does not feel so big. Runners with flat yet wide feet will love the New balance 860V4 running shoes. I give it a 9 out of 10.
