Women still suffers the issue of gender inequality. The movie "Stoning of Soraya M." shows how woman was mistreated by men.

Stoning of Soraya M.

As I heard the title a thought then emerged in my mind, is she worth stoning for? But then as I finished the movie things turned out unexpectedly. It is not only that she does not deserve the punishment but also the issue of gender inequality was brought up. It is shown here the extraordinary of women and moral courage in the face of justice.
This film was based on the document of the French-Iranian journalist, Freidoune Sahebjam, who happens to cross a small town while passing towards the border. He was stranded and is waiting for his car to be fixed when a woman in her late 60’s tried to get his attention. That was then when he was told about the conspiracy the town was getting involved with. According to Zahra, the aunt of Soraya, The place was pretty much in mess. She also stated that it is for Freidoune to judge whose crazier her or those respected people in town. She also played the role of an Independent and wise Muslim woman who stood against the others.
Soraya is an innocent woman who is stoned to death because her husband merely suspected her of adultery as a cover up for his own motives. She is a strong-willed and courageous woman who would do anything for her children. In the last scene, before she was stoned, she reprimands the entire village for stoning her instead of pleading for her innocence which she knows will be futile in front of the mob. In the end, her death or should I say murder only exposes the hypocrisy of the place to the world.
Up until now stoning is still practice in various places. However this film inspired me of how women in the film portrayed moral integrity though it is not all of them. Another thing is how the film shows its strong stand of being against hypocrisy and objectifying Muslim women as meek and helpless creatures. This is also a lesson not only to all Muslim men but to every man not to make their religion an excuse to gain their ill ambitions.
