Survivor is Not Like a Game of Chess

Survivor is a popular reality show. In it people compete for a cash prize, they must "outwit, outlast, and outplay" the other in the game to be the sole survivor and winner of a million dollars. Each person has a different strategy in the game of Survivor, it is not a game like Chess.

The Survivor Finale - Spoiler

Season twenty eight of Survivor was Brains, Brawn, Beauty, and in the end it came down to two Brawn, one who lied, blindsided, and back-stabbed, and one who was honest and noble. In the end first man won as the jury members decided he "played the game better".

I personally did not really like Tony, the winner, but not because of his game play. He was simply not the person I was rooting for. His game was good. I have no problems with it.

Playing Different Games

A lot of people did have a problem with Tony's game play because they seem to think that somehow in a game like Survivor people should not play the game to its fullest and that they should be nice, and honest. Some viewers dislike all the lying that occurs in the "game". Survivor does not have a rule that says "you cannot lie", it is not a game of honor, it is a game of doing what it takes to get to the end.

It is only in games such as Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, that some people think the players should pussyfoot around and be nice. Most other games with the exception of Professional Wrestling (the scripted kind) people have no problem with people playing hard within the rules. Note that lying, backstabbing, and blindsiding is not against the rules of Survivor. Those things are a part of the game like it or not.

Think about that when you watch these games and view them as what they are games. People who lie are not cheating, they are following the rules and following a strategy just as though they were playing a game of chess. They are playing hard and playing to win!

I understand the premise of the show and how people have to pull out all the stops to be the last person standing -- I just don't enjoy the concept myself.

To play within the rules is okay as after all it is a game to show our ability to outwit others - siva
