First unveiled to the world on July 19, 2006, in Santa Monica, California, this car has been making news for all good reasons!

Tesla Roadster

Tesla Roadster is a high performance BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) sports car. This highway capable car is manufactured by Tesla Motors and looks impressive. The company started selling this car in December 2009. It is available in both metallic and non metallic colors.

Tesla Roadster uses lithium-ion battery cells. Its Energy Storage System (ESS) contains several cells. Driver is updated with the status of the battery through the Vehicle Management System (VMS). Chassis is made of aluminium. Tesla Roadster comes with a 375 volt AC induction air cooled electric motor. It has single speed fixed gear gearbox. It can travel more than 200 miles on a single charge. It can reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Roadster's PEM technology is behind its various functions like motor torque control, regenerative braking control and battery charging. Independent suspension and alloy wheels with Yokohama tires assures good road grip. Tire pressure can be monitored on a touch screen display. This vehicle comes with ABS anti-lock brake system, parking lock and mechanical lubrication pump.

Tesla Roadster requires less service and maintenance when compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. Owner can charge the vehicle using any 120 volt or 240 volt outlet. It is as simple as charging a cell phone. Full battery recharge requires around three and a half hours. Vehicles that run on gas require routine oil changes, replacement of spark plugs, belts etc. Tesla Roadster user has to just get an antifreeze change done every five years. For other day to day issues with the vehicle, the user can just call the company. Technicians will come home for assistance.

Tesla Roadster is getting good reviews from the industry and the media. Environmentalists have loved this vehicle.

Tesla Motors is partnering with automobile giant Toyota in an endeavor to develop more electric cars. It is time we reduce dependence on gas to run our cars. For more details about the vehicle and for some great pictures you may visit the company website http://www.teslamotors.com.

saw this on tv here in uk last year, i agree it looks good, but i doubt that most people could get 200 miles in between charging as it is a sports car and they will drive it like a sports car. I think electric cars are a great start but i believe the future lies in hydrogen fuel cells
