These are some of best radio apps for a smartphone. The following are the ones that use on my Android smartphone. I would think that the same apps would be available in an other markets like for iPhone.

iHeart Radio

iHeart is one of the great radio apps to have. This radio app carries all the radio stations that Clear Channel owns from around the United States. They also have stations that has their own genre like music from the '70's , '80's, Country and so much more.

Some of the features that can expect from this app is that you get the best live internet radio, like pop, country, hip-hop and R&B, rock, talk, news, sports and so much more. You are able to create custom music stations with over 18 million songs from over 400,000 artists. Another good feature on this app is that you can set an alarm clock to your favorite radio station, which is pretty cool feature.

Tune-In

Tune-In is a free app is also good to have and compliments iHeart radio very well. One reason that this is a free app is that it runs advertisements at the bottom of the app. This has some similar features like iHeart radio, but you are able to listen to over 100,000 live radio stations and over 2 million podcasts, concerts or shows from your phone.

One of the interesting features that this app has for people who love listening to college sports like football which you are able to listen on this app.

ESPN Radio

If you are strictly a sports fans and only want sport stations, then this app is for you. You can listen to different local ESPN radio stations from around the country. On the stations you can listen to talk show hosts, listen to local games and also listen to On Demand to Sports Center which is updates every 20 minutes.

Pandora Internet Radio

One of the interesting things about Pandora is that you can create personalized stations for the type of music that you like to listen to a lot. When you create the station it will play the music and all you have to do is hit thumbs up or down so the app knows what kind of songs to play for you in the future.

Slacker Radio

Slacker Radio is a handcrafted radio from the passionate music experts. This app help you customize your taste in music by recommending different music and has 100's of different radio stations like ABC, ESPN, American Public Media, and the Weather Channel in which you are able to customize news, weather, talk and sports.

Radio League

Radio League is an interesting radio app which was created by Journal Communications. The app is produce the best of local and digital streaming music from your city's stations and from stations from across the United States. Listen to high quality digital streaming stations from adult alternative to oldies. You can also listen to local hits, country and varitiety of stations from Knoxville to Tucson and everywhere in between. They offer an alarm clock feature where you can wake up to your favorite radio station. Another thing you can do is song information and album art from the stations playing. They have a Now Trending, where they have some articles that are trending for those who wants to catch up on some news.

There are other people that I know who don't have a smartphone. The one reason is that they don't have any use for them. That is what they say anyways.

Join the club, Mark. My hand phone was first used in prehistoric times. I have to slap it occasionally to get the sound clearer, but at least it doesn't have keyloggers and other totally unnecessary apps.
