Growing Popularity of DTH in India

Television has been an integral part of our lives for more than a few decades now. However, especially over the last few years, there has been a significant change in the way we view television especially here in India. No longer do we depend on analog cable; instead a majority of the homes now use DTH in India. With this satellite option, the pictures are a lot clearer, and the experience has been all the better for it. Now, people cannot actually go back to analog cable as it will no longer be the same.

DTH in India first started 10 years ago, when the first company that came up with the services decided to start slowly. Instead of trying to take on the established cable operators, the company decided to go for rural markets, where cable television was not available. Of course, it was not easy to convince people living in the rural areas to pay a lot of money to get a few channels, but they persisted with it. Despite struggling for close to 2 years, they could only get about 3 lac customers. But they persisted, as they did not expect too many players in the field, and could still make significant profits.

However, things have changed very rapidly, and now, after 10 years, DTH in India is a vibrant industry, with many players vying for customers in both rural and urban areas. In fact, DTH customers are being added at a rate that is 4 times more than cable operators. Of course, with analog cable operators also being asked to convert to digital cable, DTH in India will not find it easy sailing. But still, the signs look very good, with the number of customers converting to this service.

There is another advantage with DTH in India. Since the channels will now be able to charge subscription fees, they now get the much sought after revenue that helps them in providing better programming for their users. Therefore, it is a win-win situation for all parties concerned. Viewers would no longer have to worry about watching grainy pictures, and can instead watch HD programming. Whether it is sports, the nature channels or your daily soaps, the experience of watching them has become a lot better. With more expansion being planned in this sector, one can only expect things to get even better as the days go by.
