Looking for a good book? Something a bit out of the ordinary? You just might want to pick up "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. This is a series that has future movie franchise written all over it. Read on to find out what to expect.

The Hunger Games

I'm not one to normally review a book. In fact this is the first book review that I've done. That being said, I felt compelled to pass along the word about Suzanne Collins'
"The Hunger Games."

When I first picked out "The Hunger Games," my expectations, to say the least, were minimal at best. Oh, I'd heard from a few others that this Fantasy/Science Fiction novel was worth a read, but to be honest, I had very little faith in my being able to become absorbed in it.

Imagine my surprise when after reading the first chapter in this book, I found myself totally absorbed in it. As a child of the 80's I remember enjoying Stephen King's "The Running Man" (which I only discovered after thoroughly enjoying the Arnold Swartzenegger movie of the same name) and I have to say there are more than a few parallels between this 80's classic and "The Hunger Games." Both deal with a post appocolyptic world, both involve a saddistic game televised for a rabid, world audience, and both have likeable heroes. In Katniss, Collins has created a genuine heroine who people of all ages can identify with. The world she lives in feels realistic and somewhat familiar despite the futuristic setting.

In regards to storytelling, I applaud Collins for choosing to write the book as a real time, first person narrative. It's rarely done, however, when done properly, like in this book, it is highly effective at drawing the reader into the story. Also, while the language is not that difficult, it is engaging which allows for the book to be a quick, easy read, which can appeal to a broad age grouping from teens to pensioners.

If you are looking for something different, I would definitely recommend this book. I don't think you will be dissappointed.

If you pick it up, let me know your thoughts.
All the best.

I think this is a must have on my Christmas shopping list for the hubby.
Nice review. Not bad at all, especially it being your first review.
If you had not told me that this was your first, I would not have known.
Thank you for sharing.:)
