A song contest that has never produced songs or singers worth listening and keeping.

The never ending song contest strikes again

Some time ago, when I saw that the Eurovision contest was about to be celebrated, I exclaimed "Oh, does it still exists?" I couldn´t believe my eyes that after many years, the famous TV song contest was still on... and on.... and on.
Yesterday, there was another edition again in Copenhaguen. I read that Conchita Wurst, a bearded woman, that represents to Austria has achieved to win the so called prestigious song contest.
On the video, I watch a very slim woman at distance. The cameras don´t take many close-ups, fearing perhaps that this bearded woman may be shocking for some viewers. I look at her and she doesn´t seem to be a woman. Her hands and face features look like a man´s... She´s won then, but I guess her song will be forgotten before we reach to Christmas.
Is it worth to keep such a contest?
Years ago, France had decided to quit such a contest, stating that the organisation of it costs a lot of money and such a competition has never produced songs worth listening and they haven´t lasted long in the music market.
The first and only time that Spain won this contest is as distant as in 1968. It corresponded to the State controlled TV channel to organise the one for the following year. Someone I knew who worked for the Spanish TV as an electrician, told me how much it costs and that because of it, they took them several months to get the money that the channel owed them!
Who remembers these winning singers?
Massiel from Spain, Gigliola Cinquetti from Italy, France Gall from France, Mary Robinson from Ireland, Clif Richard from UK and many more that won the contest in past years? Many of them and their winning songs were almost forgotten before the turn of the year.
I watch the video of the Eurovision song contest 2014 and I see loads of laser lightening and a very stylish decoration, but I wonder if this beard woman will achieve to have a solid and successful musical career in the coming years. No comments on the Spanish one that seems to have gained a top 10 in the chart.
It´ll probably be one of these summery, beach songs, playing non-stop on anyone´s Cd recorder.
It´s true. This song contest organised by European television channels cost a lot of money, but they have never achieved to produce songs and singers worth listening and keeping.
