A list of my favorite children's classics, written by some of my favorite authors. There are many, but this is just my Top 10.

Top 10 Children's Classics : My Favorites

This could qualify as a mini-review of books, since I'm making a list of my favorite Children's Classics. I do have a lot, but this will be my pick for Top 10.

But before that, I'd like to share as to the reasons why they are my top favorites of all my favorites. Before I or any of my older siblings were born, my father bought and collected lots of books of various genres. He loved (and still loves) to read, and he considered spending a huge amount on books as a very good investment. He considered it a huge help in helping with his and our extra education. You can only learn so much in the classroom, and teachers are only available for a certain length of time, but books are with you a lot of the time. You can even bring a few with you at all times. Anyway, from the day we could begin to read, he encouraged and coached us to read as many books as we wanted, mostly English books.

So, anyway, he had (and still has) a huge collection of classical children's books which he special ordered from out of the country, and built a mini library for us. He taught us our letters and words, and instilled in me and a few of my siblings to love books and to discover the treasures in them. For myself, I read everything he had from Black Beauty to his greatly treasured second-edition Shakespeare, Complete Work, from Jack London to Grimm's Fairy Tales. It was a great time of discovery for me, and let me say, I will always prefer books to e-reader or any other modern reading tools. I remember reading his huge collection of Children's Classics, and so here are the ones I have read and picked as my Top 10, in no particular order:

1) CS Lewis' Narnia Chronicles, all seven books
2) George MacDonald - Full Volume. My favorite as a child was Little Daylight.
3) Arabian Nights - Various authors
4) Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass - I thought the cheshire cat creepy but hilarious
5) Black Beauty by Anna Sewell - I cried at various points in my reading of the book
6) The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood
7) Charles Dickens's works - Just his works alone can fill up my Top 10, so I'll just put him here instead.
8) Aesop's Fables - A huge and thick book of the fables, a collection, with illustrations.
9) Grimm's Fairy Tales
10) Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Now that I've made my list, I've come to the happy realization that I actually have so much more than TEN!! But then it would not be top 10 if I add to the list. I really need to put Mark Twain and Robert L Stevenson in there. Or, Arthur C Doyle. Ouch, in hindsight, I probably should have made this a Top 20 list, ya think?
