My husband and I just got back from the 4th Annual 1940's World War II Ball. It was a trip back in time.

The 1940s World War II Era Ball

An event you have to experience at least once in your life. It is a Vintage WWII Ball that turns an ordinary airport into a 1940’s fantasy ball. It is an event that has been held annually for the past four years, and it all takes place in a hangar at a Boulder, Colorado Airport.

Once a year the Boulder airport is transformed into a vintage nightclub. The 1940s World War II Era Ball features swing dancing, authentic era military jeeps, planes and bicycles and entertainment galore.

2,500 People Turned Out to Attend this Year’s Event

Its organizer and founder, Khyentse James pulls out all the bells and whistles on this one. The event this year included, a live performance put on by the Hot Tomatoes, which are a big band orchestra, a local favorite.

Several impersonators are brought in that added life to the party. Those impersonators included a Frank Sinatra look alike, Bob Hope and the Andrew Sisters as well. It is a ball that brings with it a piece of World War II history. 2,500 people turned out to attend this year’s event. The Air Field is filled with World War II re-enactors and one of the highlights of the event was when General Patton came riding in on a jeep to announce that the war had ended. Balloons dropped to the ground and the band plays.

Romance, Music and Fun 1940's Style

If you like vintage you’ll love this show. It is an event that honors World War II Veterans including both men and women who had served either in a military or civilian capacity. The 1940’s were filled with romance, music and this vintage WWII Ball brings it all to life.

It was definitely a night to remember and an experience that you need to add to your list of must do’s! This annual event is hosted in Boulder, Colorado and best of all, net proceeds from the 1940’s WWII Era Ball from this year’s event went to The Wounded Warriors Project and The Spirit of Flight Center Colorado.

Sound Fun? Then Check Out Their 1940's & 50's Tiki Event in September

It is an event inspired by the movie "South Pacific" and the CBS-TV series Gilligan's Island. The Voodoo Island event in September is a 1940’s - 50’s Exotica Style Ball, complete with Asian, Polynesian, and Latin instruments.

There will be dancing under the stars to an exotica inspired, 9-piece Afro-Cuban orchestra. Complete with an Tahitian oasis of bamboo huts, palm trees, and hula dancers. and the Smoking J’s & Vibes on Velvet.

Attendees can enter the limbo contest, take part in a group hula lesson, and check out the vintage car show.

If you are a 1940's & 50's fan than this is an event you won't want to miss.

Great page, Teila. Cathy and I had planned on attending this years "Ball" but you know what they say about the best laid plans of Mice and Men. We also have the "Tiki Event" on our calendar of things to do. Maybe we will see you there.

I can understand the excitement and nostalgia of such events. We have come thus far and we need to remember our roots, the sacrifces of those who rode before us. Thanks Teila, for the share and the lovely pictures - siva

Oh how I would love this. I have always said I should have been born decades sooner than I was. I am a huge fan of the movies of that era and I can only imagine what scenes are shared in Boulder during this time. Well done! Thank you for sharing.:)

Sounds great Teila Capturing the past memories and the Big Band sounds. I can't quite make out if the aircraft engine in the background is that of a liberator bomber or not it is however a plane from that era. Thank you for sharing.
