Do you love home cooked food? Would you like to try some of the best and maybe even quite exotic home cooked food while traveling? - Or are you a "home" chef? Do you love to invite people to sample your best home cooked meals? Two options and great "foodie" experiences all over the world, that is in essence what plateculture.com offers. Enjoy!

Just listening to the radio - as you do ...

A few days ago I listened to the wireless and there was a short mention of plateculture.com. As I'm always most interested in something good to eat, I wrote down the URL and in the evening I fired up my laptop and checked out their website.

Wow!!! Ahhhh ....! Brilliant! Oh, those mouthwatering dishes on their home page! I sure felt at home on this website! So I read on ...

How does it work?

Plateculture.com started off in SE Asia to offer a platform where people can book a home cooked meal and where home chefs offer their best home cooked dishes. The website has meanwhile gone international and works similar to airbnb.com.

You, the traveler can choose a home cooked meal on your travels, i.e. you select and book a homecooked meal with your friends through plateculture.com and after the home chef confirms the order, you pay the requested amount on the website.

As a home chef you click on the green button "Become a chef" and fill in your details, your offer and your profile. You upload a profile picture and a few pictures of the dishes you offer and maybe some photos of your home. And as soon as your guests have paid, you will also get paid, so you can prepare your lovely home cooked meal for them!

The people behind plateculture.com are very helpful and email contact with them is very enjoyable! Give it a try!

How long does the sign-up take?

The time it takes to sign-up probably depends on how long it takes you to round up your photos and how long it takes you to write about your kitchen and your profile. It's not difficult really as there are helpful examples in each section.

All in all it took me about 2 hours to get my home chef profile written up properly and a few hours later there was a first personal contact message from plateculture.com welcoming me. And there were a few helpful tips on how to make my home chef site even better.

Shortly afterwards my entry went live. I'm now one of the first 3 home chefs on plateculture.com in Spain offering authentic paellas, Spanish rice dishes, tapas and Moroccan couscous which is very much a plate of the Mediterranean cuisine.

The prices vary. I think it's obvious that expensive ingredients merit a higher price, but all in all I think the prices for authentic home cooked meals in a cosy environment served with a smile are well worth the experience.

The early bird ...

Plateculture.com seems to expand rapidly all over the world, so I thought I'd better get my skates on and sign up with them and as I love cooking and receiving guests from all over the world, I'm very happy that I took the first step into the right direction.

Just imagine how one can indulge in low cost and high quality travel now with

  • plateculture.com and
  • airbnb.com

by simply using one's smartphone or computer to book! I know I will do exactly that for my next holiday!

Thank you, Ptrikha! It might be a while until they take off all over the world, but then again, I've got time and meanwhile I can cook up some delicious meals for my friends!
