SMPS which is the power supply unit of your computer and is one of the important components in the system.SMPS means Switch Mode Power Supply and it appears as a box that takes the AC power from your regular plug point and then transfers it to different parts within the system using the transformer that converts it into DC power.

The power is supplied with the help of power cords within the SMPS that supplies power as required by each component in the CPU.There is a ventilation fan which is within the SMPS box that regulates the temperature and helps to keep the system cool.
Mainly the SMPS supplies two types of DC power voltages which are 1)+12V,-12V and 2)+5V,-5V.These voltages can be identified by the color of the supply wires that come along with the SMPS.The detailed description of the supply wires is given below:

Orange/Red - +5V

White - -5V

Yellow - +12V

Blue - -12V

Black - Ground
