Word Dynamo! is the new dynamic edutainment at Dictionary.com

It is one of the best English learning web tool on the Infotainment System on the Internet.

"How many words do you know?"

Word Dynamo! bewitches you to turbo-charge your vocabulary, reading, and writing skills by inviting you with a glaring question, "How many words do you know?" as you step onto this page at Dictionary.com

Word Dynamo! has three cog-wheels rolling to help you in three different dynamic ways:

=> Get higher scores and better grades at school

=> Play quizzes, crosswords, and the Word Challenge to boost your learning

=> Your personalized home page comes with recommended games just for YOU!

Word Dynamo! provides you a great learning experience with easy edutainment techniques and Standardized Tests in ACT,GRE, SAT, GMAT, LSAT, PSAT and TOEFL.

My interest was to give a try to the challenging question "How many words do you know?" on the Word Dynamo!

By clicking on the large red rectangular "How many words do you know?" button you are open for the challenge!

Choose your grade...

On the 'Choose your grade' page you have four options of Grade Levels:

Elementary School (Grades 1-5)
Middle School (Grades 6-8)
High School (Grades 9-12)
College & Beyond (Grade 12+)

I chose the fourth level to test my English vocabulary.

I was offered to take a test of 10 words out of the estimated 36817 words you may know displayed on the counter.displayed at the top right-hand corner.

"The estimated number of words you may know" fluctuates as you go on answering and the count depends on the answer either correct or incorrect.

This test has no time limit, you I answered without referring to any online dictionary (though there is no rule by the Word Dynamo stopping you to look up one on the Net)

I scored 9/10 and the Word Dynamo said I know 45567 words and my level was declared as Piston which is a step below the Dynamo.

At this point you can choose to play the game again to increase your scores, but this time the Dynamo's estimation would be less than what was displayed when you started at the first instance, since you have scored less than 10, and the Dynamo has noted your result of previous test.

If you score 10/10 your knowledge of words will be at more than 50,000 words. This, I tested on the Word Dynamo by scoring all the 10 by cheating with help of online Wordweb dictionary. Ha ha ha!

When you scored 50,000 and above you reach the Dynamo level.

And now you can continue playing the Word Challenge to unlock the next level and increase your score!

Unlock the next level...

When you press the UNLOCK NEXT LEVEL BUTTON you will be asked to join Dictionary.com Word Dynamo for free to play.

If you are not interested to register at Dictionary.com, you can quit and do your articles at Wikinut for quick money, or else waste some more time playing with the Word Dynamo.

But I joined the site and went on to unlock the next level. Now the Dynamo prompts you to Master the meanings, unlock the next level.

Also it recommends to play various advanced word games in Latin Roots (includes GRE, SAT, GMAT), Slang Quiz, and pre-algebra terms.

Play again...

I chose to test my self to Master the meanings, unlock the next level. selected Peace and Love among the three tests offered to me. The other two were on words about Five dollar College Essay Words, and Good term for a bad, bad thing.

I took another test and scored very less.So the Dynamo tells me to play again and again until I score well to my satisfaction.

I liked the way the Dynamo has been programmed to encourage me to learn thoroughly and I enjoyed practicing the words.

Studious, Strenuous and Stunning...

While playing again and again I got the message as shown in the above screen shot.

And I played and scored more and finished all the tests.

Unlocking the next word list...

So there I was after unlocking the next level of Word List.

And it was thoroughly enjoyable while I learnt many new words in the English language.

Smoke, steam, thunder, and lightning!

As I successfully completed the tests of the chosen Word Lists, there came the message:

Smoke, steam, thunder, and lightning!

You are one of the dynamic few to master the Word Challenge—and you have earned the right to flaunt it! Congratulations!

And I pressed the red rectangular button - Return to Home

I have used Word Dynamo, and from my experience it is inferior to another vocabulary teaching website called Vocabulary.com. Here is why:

Vocabulary.com features easier-to-understand definitions that are often accompanied by blurbs about the words, making them easier to memorize

- Vocabulary.com is more user-friendly

- Vocabulary.com features no annoying advertisements

- Vocabulary.com gauges each invidual's skill level and introduces new words for her to learn based on that skill level

- Vocabulary.com had numerous example sentences in all contexts for each word

- You can customize what words you are learning by adding them to your word list, and Vocabulary.com will ask you questions about the words not just once, but until it sees you have mastered them in every sense
Try them both. Compare, contrast, see what you think.
